Cam followers (8v)

Here goes...

I have a 2.0 8v Cav which has been dormant for over a year. The engine hasn't even turned in that time. (No I haven't been banned ;) )

I removed the plugs (and FPR) and squirted some upper cylinder lubricant in the bores and spun the engine over on the starter before refitting the plugs and FPR

OK, considering the engine hasn't turned at all in 12 months it sounds a bit rattly and I'm wondering if the cam followers are complaining. The oil pressure light went out promptly and i had changed the oil (OEM filter and 10w40 magnatec) beforehand too.

It sounds like my mates C20XE calibra now :(

What exactly is this stuff called, I've never heard of it?
Was the oil level at the correct level before starting?
Did you prime the oil filter with oil before fitting? This holds a surprsing amount of oil inside.
How long have you had the engine running and does the rattle sound instant?

Yeah, I filled the filter right up with oil before fitting it, always do.

The upper cylinder lubricant is what I add to the fuel in a 1:500 ratio. It's currently got 1:250 in the tank of shell optimax

I hope it might quieten down when i take it above 1500rpm.

Do 8v's have the oil pressure relief valve in the front on the oil pump?

If so i might change the spring and clean the piston/bore

Took it for a gentle run today and the cam followers have quietened right down now, phew!

Silence....well almost

Needs a mad steam clean under the bonnet and around all brakes to clear the cobwebs and crap

Bit hesitant around 2000rpm, but it might be the double dose of UCL and it's first tank of optimax
