C20XE Electronics?

Hi all

I’m helping a mate put a C20XE in his Astra Mk3 Saloon and I’ve been give the job doing the electronics, The engine came out of a Cav GSi, I’ve took every wire out of the cav and the loom is sitting on the floor of his garage, what is the best way to wire it up? Do I use the Cav’s loom and throw the Astra’s loom away (Not my idea) or could I kind of use both? So the Cav’s loom just runs the engine and the astras loom runs all the lights and shi’t.

Basically what is the easiest way to go about this, as I know I could do it as I’m good at electronics but it would be the hard way around the problem (easiest way please)

If Not would the Cav’s loom be able to run all the Astra’s stuff as the cav’s got a lot more electronics stuff.

All help appreciated and if there is any tips that you would like to shear them with me, please feel free to let me know.

And if anyone wants to come down and do it for me for free, I’ll come and pick you up
lmao lmao

All you need is the engine loom from the cav that finishes at the round conector.

You only need about 5 wires from there and a few (2 or 3) from the 3 little plugs by the ecu.

You dont need to touch the astra loom that runs the lights or anything else

Ok, umm, nope i don't know what to do

use ASTRA engine loom (alt, oil press etc)
CAV ecu loom

link up ecu loom in drivers footwell

can't use the cav round plug section cause the cav and astra plugs are different
Doing the job tonight and you are very right the connectors are very much different:rolleyes:

could you give me a bit more info on what i need to do?

I've got the whole loom on the floor, and don't know really have a clue on what to do. please someone give me some advice on what i've got to do now.

I really need to do this tomorrow as the engine will be going in.

what do i do with the connectors as they are different?

This is the connector in the Astra.......

This is the connector out of the Cav....

This is the loom...

Disconnect the loom off the astra engine which connects to the

alternator
starter
oil pressure sensor
reversing light switch

etc

and fit it to the cavalier engine.

Then it simply plugs in !

Use the cav ecu loom (that the one that connects to the injectors) and chop and join the wires in the drivers footwell.
match colours
so i don't use the Cav loom for the engine, use the astra one? is that right

And What wires do i have to cut and match? ECU wires???

Thanx very mush for your help mate

i will make the same conversion in some months. But in my case, i have a Astra MK2 2.0 8V, with Le-Jetronic fuel injection, and i will put a Motronic 2.8 of C20XE(really thanks for Brian Sidebothan). I have a ECU loom of C20XE, but i have a doubt.. Can i connect the ECU light advert in my digidash? For i get errors codes from the Motronic 2.8 ECU? What is the connector of that?

Thanx i will have a look at that tommorow.

The thing is there are a few wires that i've got nothing to plug into now as there is no connetor for them, there is one by the coil its a plug with two wires to it and its the female end of the two connectors, the male end is no where to be seen:confused:

I think there must be something more wrong with it

If i had made a mistake wiring the wires up in the drivers footwell with those 3 connectors (black, black and a green one) would this stop the engine from firing or is more likly to be something under the engine bay that we may have not connected right?

Thanx for the help andy:beer:

Have you connected the thick wire with the ring terminal to the battery + terminal.

Is will be red inside, with a black sleeve on the outside.
Yes that is to the positive terminal.

i think thats the main ecu live feed, so if thats not connected you will have no fuel/spark
We worked this out and connceted it to the positive terminal too, but with no luck, it but i am now getting positive feed to the coil and there is a relay on the Cav's ECU loom that now clicks on when the ignition is switch on.

I know that the ECU loom side is done correctly but i'm in doubt about the round connector bit, i was told to use the astra round connector and not the Cav's (for one they don't fit). do i need to wire anything up extra as the astra has alot less wires?

The other thing is if one of the many sensors where not connected properly would this cause the ECU not to allow the coil to fire?

Is there anything else that could be majorly wrong that would cause this?

Could someone explain in more detail how its done in steps so i can see if we have missed something really silly?

Please help as its really starting to annoy me and i may be forced to buy the haynes manual for the wiring diagram!lmao (i would have alrealy bought it but its not my car!)

If anyone has any surgestions let me know

Thanx all:beer:
