All.

Firstly, very new to the Calibra Turbo so bare with me If I'm a little dim.

* Firstly, it seems to only be boosting at around 4.5K which causes it fly round to 7K quicker than last nights curry leaving the body.....

Is this normal as I thought the boost would kick in a lot earlier than this, though it does seem to kick in lower in 3,4,5 & 6..... as I say above, is this normal.

* Also, I am getting two warning lights on constant, No.1 - its the radiator type looking one on the left of the display. The car runs at about 60-90 deg, unless left standing or "used" hard, though under the hood it feels VERY Hot...

No.2 - The abs light, though the pads are fairly low so I suspect this is the cause....Thoughts.

* Finally for now....

What tyres would be best suited to the 4x4, I have read about keeping them all the same design & tread depth. What are you recommondations.

Thanks in advance.

any tyres that u like... better the brand.. safer youll be ;)

make sure u get x4 of any tyre u choose.. or pop *boom* goes your 4x4 system.. quite simply

if u have a blow out...

tuff.. u gotta get x4 new tyres

if u park badly and gouge a hole in the side wall of ya tyre...

tuff.. u gotta get x4 new un's...

if theres more than -2mm tread diff between the front and rear tyres... POP goes ya 4x4...

so keep rotating your tyres x3 times a day to keep it safe :)

So.....3 x a day for tyres, I knew the Transfer box was delicate. but dammmmmmm.... Well it had a new Transfer box fitted 8K ago so I'm hoping it should be cool, the tyres are different brands though, it has F1's on the front & a Firestone Directionial on the back...Though they are the same'ish depth, I will get all 4 changed for piece of mind.

John, great site mate...... Will prob get the sack today for mis'use of the internet..

So what are you thoughts on the probs I'm having.

the turbo spins up before 4.5k, but theres a massive extremely sharp application of torque at 4k ish, which may give the impression theres nothing below that.

turbo apearing to kick in lower than 4k in high gears is normal too, more load on the engine see.

radiator warning light, thats just low fluid level in the expansion tank isnt it ? if the tank is half full of liquid then the floats proably sunk.

I'm not sure but it might be low coolant. Is it orange?

Obviously, fill the coolant up to the max line. There is a sensor in the side of the container, it may of come off or be faulty or something which is causing the light.

As long as there is coolant don't worry about it.

ABS sensors are not cheap at all but you can take the sensor and bracket off another car and use them. DO NOT try and remove the sensor from its little bracket, it absolutley will not come out...ever.

Have you considered moving the engine to a RHD shell? Shells tend to be very cheap what with people removing C20LET's for Astras and Nova's.

> so keep rotating your tyres x3 times a day to keep it safe

the legal issues on removing the tyres and putting them back on the rims is getting tougher due to tyre blow outs and insurance claimes. Theres a good chance your tyres are directional ones, so you have to flip the tyre round so it wears on the other side of the tyre, hence remove it from the rim. I had to go to a small local garage, cash in hand, for him to swap the tyres over. The bigger places like Kwick-fit won't touch them, unless you are putting new tyres on. Once a tyre is removed its classed as '2nd hand' and they won't refit them to a rim due to insurance reasons.

> I had already checked that, so if that is what it is for it must be a wiring or sensor prob...

depeding on year, you can read out the ABS fault codes for free with a paper clip, see my tech info pages on my site at www.topbuzz.co.uk

I don't get this Alan.
My tyres are directional, so what? The front n/s tyre goes back n/s. Direction is the same, isn't it?
You won't swap them diagonally, so what's the problem exactly?

Top Buzz. - I was refering to the water warning light, in my note "already checked that" so on the abs front you think it will be a sensor....I presume I have 4, one at each corner...Big job ahead then...Though I will have to drop all the wheels off anyway to get the tyres changed., will take a look at all the sensors, make sure everything is as it should be..Thx

I'd love to reshell the car, but then I have all the extra hassles that come with that. Not sure yet as I think I can live with being on the left of the car.

Thanks again.

Think he was suggesting along the lines that a tyre does generally not wear evenly across the tread so swapping side to side as well as front to rear increases useable tyre life and makes for more even wear, but this does mean removing from rims and refitting, a right pain.

Exactly. A car sqarts down anyway, so the wear will never be even (more of a proablem with lowered cars), so one side of the tyre will wear down more than the other. To get a bit more life out of the tyre, you need remove the tyre, spin it round and refit, so the worn part is now pointing on the outside of the car.

Present tyres are okay wear wise, but its the fact they are different so I will changing them all the weekend. Am I better to go for non directionals then, this way I can swap to any corner of the car can't I?

I have another issue as the when car is hot, upon starting up the revs fluctuate for about 10 secs, down then up then leveling off. the Lump is the Ecotek Turbo (yellow spark plug cover) so do these still use a ICV or is this normal for this engine....After the initail few moments the car is sweeeet..as long as you dont touch the pedal. This only happens when hot, i.e. 90 degress +

Again, thanks for your advice.

yes but you'll find the bigger the tyre and speed reading, the more likly they will be directional types.

Sounds like the CTS, new is about £7 from autovaux or £20 from VX dealer, 5 min to change.
