you culd just adjust the actuator right out to the end of the thread. then there will be no boost. or you could un-short the 1st gear recognition plug and this will give low boost.
Just unscrew the actuator mate, until there is no thread showing towards the battery.
Nothing to go wrong, nothing to get damaged. It will drive well too.
Would I get the same result by disconnecting the actuator vacuum hose or any hose around the amal valve?
I want it to be as quick and easy as possible, especially when the car is warm!!
Winding down the actuator is good for when I’m away offshore, I’m kinda think for I lend my car to my sis for example on a Sat night, I mean, I won’t need it when I’m out blazing!!
what about putting a valve in the dump valve t-piece, so that i can just open it when my sister is driving, and close it again when i get behined the steering wheel?
no mate. this will cause an intake leak and is the last thing you wanna be doin. you could do some real damage doin that. and apart from that the car will probably idle and run really bad due to unmetered air entring the engine
the last thing i want to do is cause undue damage, that why i need to make it slow for my sister.
I can relate to what you are saying about unmetered air entering, before i fitted the dump valve (anbout two years ago) i had reservations about the same thing.
just adjust it out to the end of its thread and this will be enough. i see what you mean about not wantin to have to do this all the time especially when the car is hot. so youcould just do what i said and unshort the gearbox switch. i cant see there being a problem with you fittin an incar switch to do this
I actually soldered the 1st gear lead together when I transplanted the engine not long ago (mkIII Astra now), but i will just cut the lead for the moment and drive about a bit to see how it goes.
I'll probably leave it as an under body switch until i see how feasible it is for an in car swicth. I already have the defunkt ETC switch in mind.
Cheers for all your input for such a silly query!!
The best way is to do as I said.
Disconn the hose from the actuator.
Take the hose that come from the compressor, just take it off the amal and put it on direct to the actuator. Its the one that sits next to the Motronic conn.
Could it be easier ?
To release the wastegate will damage the seat and valve.
OK Russel, that wil do the same and a little more "high tech".
Take the hose from the turbo and put it direct to the actuator?
I suppose i could pull both hoses off the amal valve (both the pipe from turbo and pipe to actuator) and join them together with a short elbow piece or suminc?
I'm trying to avoing working at any hot areas of the engine and it has to be easy to do on the fly even if its dark.
For example, last night I was down town, i wanted to stay out and get drunk, but i would had have to go home and drop my car off.
My solution was to give the car to my sister for the evening so she could go spinning with here mates. This had the added bonus of me getting a lift home (9 mile) at the end of th night!
also if you remove the amal valve from the circuit then you take away any safety controlthat the ecu has over the boost level. fair enough you will be running low boost but you just never know
Does that mean we could be running 1/2 boost most of the time & only full bosst for a couple of second or the other way round?
Either way i'm gonna give the actuator way a go no and check the difference.
Cheers,
Russell
