Right job done, just one thing I'm not too sure on. Haynes say to refill the gearbox with 1.8 litres, while Halfords guide suggests 1.9l for my car. Anywya I've put 1.8L in considering some of the original oil may still be left in the box.
till it comes out the level check plug. 1.8 litres is just an aproximate capacity. When i fitted my spare F20 i did a complete dry refil, and it took 2 full litre bottles of oil, and still did not come out the level check hole.
Right I've put in 1.9L of gearbox oil, and checked the level. However, Haynes manual says to check the gearbox level while the car is level, but how am I meant to check the oil level without lifting the front of the car and therefore causing it to not be level.
With the front of the car lifted more oil flows to where the level check plug is, therefore giving an over reading. It gushes out of the check plug like this.
Short of getting the car on 4 axle stands, or hydraulic lift, how should I take a correct reading?
Oh well, thanks for trying. Gearchange feels very good, and I did ask him for F20 oil (not that that guarantees I got the right stuff), so I shouldn't worry. Although I always do
Oh yeah it has improved. TBH there was never a problem with the original oil, just after 100,000 miles I thought it could do with a change. I have noticed cold gear changes are less knotchy now, and hopefully the reluctantness to go into second and third gear on the 1/4 mile strip should be erraditcated.
Yeah, 3rd was a pain on mine but its losened up now quite a bit. I think a gearoil change will be done still.
