I will need to replace the clutch in a 2.0litre 16v Redtop (F20 gb) and im wondering what to look into or what u lot suggest.

I dont really fancy a standard one as i think there about £60 anyway, so can anyone suggest the best aftermarket clutch for around £100-£120? If they do em that cheap?

Thanks

Arent Helix ones semi-racing? quite hard on the foot, and then the car springs froward ?? not too ideal for a leisurely cruise are they?

What about Black Diamond Power Clutch?
for fast road use. just slightly uprated isnt it?

my AP just died, which brought on that comment lmao

that AP tho has taken 5 years of solid abuse without a flinch before now and is highly recommended (they all gotta go sometime, especially the way i launch it :p)
it is (err was) an organic AP plate (16v plate is CP 6454-1)

Just checked. I can get a clutch for either £56 or £88 (2 different types, gotta check codes to see which i need).

If its the £56, i'll get the standard Vauxhall one, but if its £88, then i mite as well get an aftermarket one.

So, can anyone give me some info on the AP clutchs, Black Diamond, and has anyone got any web links so i can check the prices on them.

Cheers

If the engine/gearbox is standard and your not pulling huge amounts of torque etc, then stay standard. No point in uprating it as it costs more money. Any clutch should now outlast the life of your car now, good idea if it was new (ie more life in an uprated clutch).

i had a black diamond for over a year, it was fine. killed it driving home from santapod stuck in 5th. cost 160 quid for the pressure and drive plate.

have a helix ceramic paddle clutch now, cost 130 for the drive plate, 170 for heavy duty pressure plate (required in my opinion), 30 or 40 for heavy duty release bearing.

people who have never driven a car with a paddle clutch are the only ones that have problems with it and say its jumpy and on/off. if you were a passenger in my car and i didnt tell you it had a paddle clutch you would never know. but it is quite funny watching people stall it at garages and tyre fitting centres.

I've just bought a Helix jobby identical to Oddballs.
Currently I've got a £120 job from somewhere. It's survive 18months of abuse and a 3rd gear hill start from when the gearbox stuck in gear.

In some ways I'd prefer the clutch to slip a bit and absorb some of the shock on launches rather than the shell and drivetrain. Whatever, I've got a Helix to try out when I get round to fitting it all in next few months.

as is the same with an uprated helix clutch...

There's nothing really wrong with the OE clutches are there?
(I'm thinking I could use that for the 1st couple of years, then maybe upgrade to aftermarket later stage, when I have much more power, or whatever)

Can you remember if you really paid this for the bearing 0dders or just what you got quoted?

I ask cos I was under the impression that Helix did an 'uprated' bearing for the F20. It wasn't till I was visiting a place near them and popped in to see them that Terry (My Helix) said "Nope, we only ever sell the standard one which is more than fine". List price was £19 odd - he let me have it for £15.

If peaple are trying to sell you 'Helix uprated bearings' call them a lier and say you'll inform the Trading Standards and Helix.

Got the 'tour' of the factory when I was there too. Quite interesting how and what they make. :D

ive just brought a sachs clutch for the local motor factors for £97, and i did call them and enquire about the double springs in the friction plate and they said it was a 'heavy duty sports clutch' and a non-heavy duty was about £60, we shall see what its like when its fitted
