I need to know all the reasons why a cally turb lump would smoke (blue smoke) only when sitting in traffic for a while??

engine is standard only 46000 miles from new and in mint condition.

running on fully synth..
new oil feed to turbo..
and new turbo supplied by A.E.T.
oil pressure is normal.

turbo has been sent back twice and they say " its alright".

please help as they dont deserve any more money.

I would say you have either overfilled your oil or piston rings have unusual wear or the valve stem seals are going. If the turbo has been checked and is new and the supplier said there is nothing wrong with it then i would tend to agree with them.

The guy's are right most of them do this and it is very embarressing.
I changed the small non return valve near the throttle body as mine was leaking.
I was told this valve's job is to create negatie pressure which helps keep the oil on the lubrication side of the turbo seals.
ie vaccum it only costs a few pence and its worth trying.

Have a friend follow you as you accelerate, then you'll know if it also smokes under load.
They'll also see if it smokes during de-celeration

There is a whole list of causes for this sort of 'smoking', some are not even related to the turbo at all.

When I start my LET-tuning website I'll elaborate further on the subject:beer:

thanx guys appreciate your input.

its running on vauxhall fully synth.
it only slokes when its hot i.e sitting in traffic, never smokes under load.
the engine doesnt breath heavy at all, and the feed and return to the turbo are new.

i know that it wont hurt it burning a bit of oil now and again but it shouldnt do it. and i also dont want to waste 400 quid getting another turbo if the problem lies somewhere else.

a friend of mine has the same problem, he then swapped from vaux oil to magnatec and it doesnt seem to smoke anymore!

Ive got the same problem as you smokes on idol only.I had a recon unit from turbo technics 6 months ago.

Ive been told about the valve but they are £12 from vxl.

Also check where that valve enters the inlet manifold they get blocked apparantly.

theyre £14 from vauxhall and they are absolute rubbish.
get down to your local pet shop and get a 1 way valve from there for £1
the vauxhall ones knacker up very quickly again (bad design)
ive got pet shop ones on both my calibra turbos and they are just fine

No surprise there then

Well at the end of the day it shouldnt matter what oil you run it shouldnt be getting out!!

but i see your point, have to give this valve thingy a go.

Still confused as to where this valve is???????

Thanx everyone.

Ben

Any more ideas on what it might be would still be appreciated.

I took mine of this weekend and the valve seems to be ok. i.e suck then no blow.
Just to clarify the valve should be letting air towards the inlet away from the can cover.
Still smoke on idol.

I tried restricting the flow of oil from the turbo back to the sump by squeesng the return pipe with my fingers for a second. The smoke got even worse. This to me proves that my fault lies will the turbo as the restricted oil easily passes though the oil seals on the turbo. But am I right? Why cant fault finding be simple?

hmm could you tell me more.Which pipe do you mean? The oil feed?
