FPR for throttle bodies?

Hi,

Im going to be fitting tb's to a 1.6 16v, I just wondered what fuel pressure regulator I should use. SBD reccomend a black top one at £85 + VAT, is there anything cheaper I can use that will be good enough?

I have a power boost valve, will that be any use?

IMO fse fuel pressure regulators are poo, weber do a verynice which is 3.5 bar and can be adjusted if you remove the dust cap, i use one and so does region17rc and he has a 200+bhp 1600 16v where accurate fuel pressure is crucial. I cant find the invoice at the moment so cant give the part number but its about 45 quid and is the 3.5 bar model. Its also very small and compact.

i met andyh at a saxo vs corsa day, nice bloke, and his engines a stormer too! i've done pretty much the same as andy but hes had headworktoo so he maks about ten more horses than i do, heres themain spec

omega pistons
sbd group a cams and pulleys
waisted stem inlet valves
45mm jenvey throttle bodies with 90mm trumpets,cream injectors
dta engine management
lightened and balanced as a complete assembly with the crankshaft tuftrided for strength,
arp rod bots
spesso racing head gasket
anti pump lifters

building one yourself?

cos the exhaust ones were all intact when i removed the head after the wtaer pump failed!! also dave at bat motorsport reckons theres no need, even with the inlet ones, the 16xe has 86% of the valve area of a 20xe as standard aparantly this is one of the reasons they can get big hp out of them i think

that was the problem with my fse type reg, i'm running 50 psi and after about a week it just couldnt hold the pressure, spotted n the rollers thankufully, the guy who mapped the car recomends the webber one because he has never had one fail and so far mine hasnt either, and a fifty quid i think thats a bargain!

Depends on how much cash you have.

I bought the SX fuel regulator from Earls Performance. Its a lot more expensive than the black top FSE regulator but with the amount of money spent on my engine I cant afford to have fuel pressure problems and need a reliable regulator.

Ditto & Ditto.

However most people I know run the FSE black top which as siad is more re-liable at substaining higher pressures.

At the end of the day a drop in fuel pressure at WOT means a weak mixture, which = higher combustion temps, which (could) = meltdown.

Pay your money and make your choice, but it's not an area I'd skimp in.

I just spoke to the bloke I'm buying the tb's off and he said that he never uses an adjustable fpr because a small change could ruin your whole map. That he uses a fixed one so that if it goes wrong he could just change it and his map is unaffected.

What fuel pressure is generally used? He said either 2.5 or 3 bar...., and then to map it to suit.

I agree thats a fairly sound argument, but most people set their adjustables by plugging a guage into the fuel rail, thus you get a new adjustable and set it exactly the same. A fixed one will have a tolerance, and you won't be able to dial that out. So an adjustable will inherently be more accurate because you set it the same.
