coilpack connector

is it 3 or 4 pin?
and are there 3 wires (even if its a 4pin connector)

If you have an amplified coil pack (DIS) then its four pin (used on the C14SE,X14XE,X16XE and the like).

Pin 1 = +12v
Pin 2 = Earth
Pin 3 = Cylinders 1 & 4
Pin 4 = Cylinders 2 & 3

If you have a non amplified coil pack (Usually a Sagem unit on GM, i.e 1.8 Ecotec) then it uses three pins, although the unit has four.

I can't remember which way the numbers go on this unit but the amplified one is numbered 4 3 2 1 as you look at it, I think the non amped ones are the same....in which case:

Pin 2 = +12v
Pin 3 = Cylinders 2 & 3
Pin 4 = Cylinders 1 & 4

I'm not sure if thats possible tbh. I think the amped packs are triggered differently to the non amped coil packs, so without a means of changing the ecu you may be stuck.

Not sure if this information is too late.

But if the coil pack is the wasted spark type and made by Sagem Valeo or Siemens then the pins are as follows:

1 - Cylinders 1 and 4 trigger
2 - Cylinders 2 and 3 trigger
3 - Live 12V feed
4 - Not used.

Hope that helps. I dont have the part number to hand but can get it to confirm coils.

I wondered where you were getting your information from ;) Thanks for all your help on this, I'm going to speak to MBE & SBD today and try to finalise what I require to run this :confused:

I have a wiring diagram that might assist in someone working this out ! :

Pin Number

1. +12v Supply Battery
2. 0v Ground
3. Not Connected
4. Tacho Drive
5. Not Connected
6. Ignition Return (Pin 2 - 4 Way Minitimer)
7. Not Connected
8. Inition Switch
9. Not Connected
10. Ignition Drive (Pin 4 - 4 Way Minitimer)
11. Speed Return (Pin1,3 - 3 Way Minitimer)
12. Speed Signal (Pin 2 - 3 Way Minitimer)

Notes
1. The ground wire must be connected to either the negative terminal of the battery, or to a good earth point on the chassis

2. The 12+ battery supply wire should be connected directly to the battery positive terminal. It should not be connected via any other component such as an ignition switch.

3. Pin 3 of the 4 way Minitimer should be connected to a +12v supply supply switched via the ignition switch.

4. All wires to be kept as short as possible

no, you have to keep everything you have. the mbe runs a dizzy and it will run the setup you have or the 16v dizzy exactly the same. the only difference being the 16v one looks nicer ;)

all you need to do is to wire the mbe in and drive off :cool:

here Daz, how many pics does that amplifier have (#1) as it will need to be 4 pin
