RDS holy ****! what the feck went on in there! thats major damage
less of the smiley face

dunno m8 its possible a bolt or summit went in when changed plugs but that was a week ago? has been ok since.

was a damn good engine as well..

no play in any of the pistons... the pot with the hole in it m8 really is just a hole!!! the conrod is sound.. whole engine still rotates as free as a nut<< excuse the pun lmao

Could have been a single dropped valve ie. valve stem snapped and the remains of the valve dropped into the engine. Happened to a m8s Viva many years ago - only symptom was a ticking noise from the engine UNTIL it eventually wore a hole in the piston.

Am gutted for ya mate!!

I thought it would be something like that as mine just went a few weeks back. Cambelt didn't slip but something got into the chamber so scored the chamber and dented the piston and head.

I was lucky for my vavles not to snap though.

I've been told that the head that has been pitted a bit by the damage but can be mended by getting the head skimmed.

If you are interested I have a couple of 3ltr heads (1 damged tho) with all the valves intact, defo not bent or damged. If you want them (at a price let me know) inlet valves are the same as a 2.5 but I think the exhaust valves are different.

If not your right it is a good time for some tuning. I just got some gas flowed 2.6 heads all built up with the inlet and exhaust ports opened up.

Just see it as an excuse to mod it!!

Cheers,

Only just read your PM about this gaz, what a bummer, its only been in 5 mins.
Im glad i didnt come and do the wiring now,at least you cant blame me!
A similat thing happened to my mk1 astra 1.6sr years ago.
It was my first car,i was replacing the mechanical petrol pump and lost a petrol pipe clip, couldnt find the fecker anywhere so just put another one on thinking it was lodged some where.
Well it was lodged somewhere!! Down the carb!!
Started it up and it sheared off the inlet valve head and melted itself to the piston.
I was a little luckier than you though as i got away with just a new inlet valve, the piston cleaned up ok,and no chamber damage.
Would it not be easier to just change the head or heads from the new engine rather than the full lot,or is the new one a 3ltr?
Feel for ya mate, let me know how ya go on.
Give us a shout if ya need a hand.
Ill also PM details of the next northern meet,23rd march.
Dave
