So what Vauxhall and Haynes are telling us is that it's pot luck which gearbox Manuel or Pedro decided to fit to your Corsa as it rolled by them on their Spanish production line
If you get a wire brush and clean the area around the back of the selector, you should see F** sticking out at you.
I'm not sure on the "F20 bolted to a small block" thing. It's possible to fit a small block box to a big block engine if you use the 'box's matching flywheel, and modify the block so you can move the starter motor down to meet the teeth on the fly again. Maybe you could do it the other way around and bolt a big block 'box to a small block aswell.
An F20 would reduce your power output a lot more than a smallblock 'box would though. I think transmission loss through an F20 is around 35-37bhp!
