Anyone know what type of dump valve makes the same noise as rally cars?? instead of a whoosh or p.tish noise if sort of whirrs (colin mcrae 2.0 on the pc makes this noise)
laters
wastegate chatter? a dump valve dumps and thats that. (or recirculates, but thats fairly silent)
you can pick them up for £50 and fit them yourself (they do have instructions, but its a fairly destructive process if you balls it up ) with the £60 fitting kit (forgot to price that in before!)
baileys is a harsh dump (LMFAO) and the pistons seize on their older models.
there are a million cheaper copies of these (well, actually most are identical, but without any badging)
WRC's don't have dump valves, that noise you hear is something to do with the turbo stalling between gear changes, wastegate and Anti lag, if you block off the standard dump valve on a scooby imprezza thingy it makes that chatter noise, however its not right clever for the Turbo although it does allow a quicker repsonse and spool up time!
I could be wrong so don't quote me, this is what I've heard from scoobynet, Fantasic BB if your into serious tuning and stuff, its a great resource!
The turbo's dont like normal dump valves bu the twin piston one is perfect for cars with AMM.
Everyone I know with a C20LET has a Baileys Twin Piston EVO dump valve and have not heard a problem with them yet as long as they are plumbed in correct.
Garrie/Rob, the re-circulating dump valve that is the standard on the C20LET is meant to be silent. Guess they wanted a more "refined" unit than one that "pshhhh's" all over the place
had a forge motorsport one on mine (competittion version with strong diaphrag and that was well loud when you gave it some also had a metal reinforced diaphragm on if anyones interrested!
Your all right...the Cav Turbo is silent on gear changes... Just stick a cone filter on your motor and it aint so quiet any more.... I know coz thats exactly what I've done to mine. Providing you get enough cold air to the filter then you WONT have any problems. Mines been on a year now and it runs perfectly.... And they don't just go whoooosh, it kinda churps on full boost.....LOVELY.
..... advice, i will stick to getting my bucket size ram air filter on first as i tried it at southport on sunday courtesey of haynzee and it was giving a nice ptishhhhhhh the same as a scooby catalunya.
Will let you know how i go.
if you do decide to change your standard dump valve only replace it with a recirculating one because the engine managment doesn`t like air escaping once its been measured by AMM. you can do some serious damage through borewash and other similar nasties. i remember in revs a while back they fitted an uprated recirc. valve to a saab turbo, which is basically the same setup as c20let with good results for around 70 quid i think.
