Just enquired about fuel pump realy from Vauxhall and nearly fainted at the price of £27. How do they have the nerve to charge so much when all it is in fact is a switching relay that i managed to get from Halfords for the measly sum of £5.99 and it works perfect.
Oh well
Lets just hope all the bits purchased this morning help keep the car from cutting out.

You want something to make you faint? Try this;

Went to vaux couple of days ago for quote on a new air mass meter - price?

£345

To say I swore at them was an understatement.........it probably costs bosch less than a tenner apiece to produce. It makes me sick that they rip peeps off like that....

I eventually found one for £88 including postage and warranty :D

They also quoted £75 for mk3 wings - each. There only ~£15 from pattern suppliers.

Makes me wonder if there trying to put people off vaux's

I work for a small electronics company servicing, amongst other things, audio products (portable minidiscs, CD that sort of thing).
A large multinational company (we'll call them Phony) supply a power supply through their spares dept for a mini disc recorder that sells for £130 (replacement mini disc recorder £150). When asked to justify this price the spare they say that when you consider that they have to have them produced in the far east, shipped and then stored for up to 7 years in a central location, then shipped to the dealer that requires it, they consider it to be a bit of a bargin! Does anybody think it is possible that VX increase the price of their spares (especially body panels) so when it comes to accident damage insurance claims they can claim it's unviable to repair and attempt to sell a replacement car instead?

Or have I been watching too much conspiracy theory cr*p?

when i had a little slipup with a belt tensioner, went to vuax for some valve prices, they wanted £280 per side (corsa gsi 16v)
as the inlets are not sodium filled like the exhaust, and it was the inlet i wanted i thought f**k that. managed to get some from auto-vaux for £55 and have worked perfectly.

the rollers they wanted £38-£45 each, got them for less than half that from autovuax.

id only go to vuax if i was getting a head gasket, or maybe some of those little bulbs. there headgaskets always seem to be far better quality than the copies iv found!

PaulF, i think you have somthing there. I remember a few years ago the OE manufacturers were trying to stop non-OE parts from being sold on the pretense that OE parts are better quality and therefore safer. I think it died down because of fears of price increases and the fact that parts would cost so much it would force people to purchase a new car rather than keep their existing one going. There was also the problem of what would happen to the older cars, not all the parts on them can be recycled.

Or it could be their just plain greedy like the rest of the large companies in this country.........wonder if parts are cheaper in other parts of europe.

Rip-off Britain!! How feckin true
