Looking for ppl that have installed a camber kit or been there when the guy was adjusting it to help out here a bit -
Took mine to be adjusted today but they cannot adjust it enough to get it within the limits stated (2 degrees +- 40 mins)
The most the can get it to is 2.8 degrees and so my rear wheels are starting to scrub in the inner edge
The place reckon the kit has been installed the wrong way and the bushes need to be turned round more.
I called the garage that installed it and they said it was installed properly and the camber was set as per the instructions.
What I really need to know is this - If the kit is installed correctly, will there be enough adjustment available to take it past the 2 degrees limit e.g. 1.5 degrees
Not sure if thats clear. What I am trying to find out is will the kit have a range of say 1.5 - 3 degrees so that the ideal setting is not right at the limit of adjustability.
Going in to the garage on Thursday to have a look at the kit with the guy.
Regal state "Full camber adjustment may not be possible on lowered cars. -2° toe is realistic. "
To be honest I am rearly going off these camber kits. They just seam to be an excuse to wear tyres down quicker when they come out of adjustment assuming you can get them adjusted correctly in the first place.
Sorry, dont know.... Its not stamped on the bolts either. Mebbe Richard can try a few nuts if he has a kit there ??
The place that did mine didnt put the split pins in the outer mounts which makes it very easy to adjust once its loosened. I am not sure how this will affect the camber i.e. will it loosen off and go way off ??
Time will tell. I know that both bolts are at the bottom so easily checked I guess.
I am still seriously thinking of going for the standard bushes again and throwing this camber kit to hell. I will also be trying to contact the ppl that make it to ask why the kit appears not to do what it says on the tin.
£180 for the kit is not a small amount
Was interesting that Richard mentioned that even standard cars wear slightly on the inner edges as normal.
Anyone here with a standard Cav/Calibra Turbo/GSi wanna comment on this ??
Glad i havent wasted 200 quid now! Gonna just keep moving the tyres from rear left to front right, and the same for the other side, that should even the outer edge tyre wear, and kill the overall differences in tread depth problem for the 4x4!
If so can you take a couple of pics as to how your camber looks from the back (low down pics).
Also, do you see your tyres wearing slightly on the inner edge even on standard suspension ??
Common sense would say that its probable as the tyre leans slightly so the inner edge will wear down until the rest of the tyre is in full contact with the road........ Common sense and C20LET dont always go together tho
Too inebriated for sorting picki cables etc. but camber only just percivable, same as front unless stacks of weight in back, tyre wear tottally even, out side edges if any thing (like corners).
Wouldn,t like to lower mine, front bottoms out refinishing bottom of bumper under braking on test roads when pushing, and exaust when giving it some, before you say shocks are A1.
I really dont think there is a midges ball hair in it Andy. Yours looks different but I think you have thinner wheels/tyres than mine which could be a reason it looks like it does.
I seriously am considering standard bushes and then getting on to the makers of these kits to see WTF is going on.
Ritchie and Andy my car has standard suspension height for that very reason.
I got the ripped hands once with my old gsi when taking a wheel off since the tyre was through to the steel !!
Would not recommend lowering the cav for that reason alone (i didnt know about the extra load on txb back then)
I know that even though mine is standard height the outside edge still wears a more than the rest of the tyre but is not as severe a camber as your pics !
I have been trying unsuccesfully to source a suspension kit which has standard height springs but so far no one does it.
What i wondered was and i spoke with richard king about this , if you fit a camber kit to a standard height car to pull the rear wheels even more in line would that damage the txb or upset the handling ?
I wanted to try that cos after following my wife one night when she was in my car the rear wheels really do look odd at such a camber from front.
The inside edges should wear a bit more at first even on standard cars for this reason.
We are just waiting on getting a few pics of Reto Hurlimann's cavalier which has been lowered and is fitted with a camber kit to compare the pics
