hi lads,my mates getting a astra gte convertible to wip the little boy racers around our area and my nova gte will not keep up or even catch the rs and gt turbo boys like my mates new car.so im going to try and get a new car(faster, newer).
now i like the astra gte 2.0ltr 16v but my mates got one now(convertible though)and want to be different and i think that it will be close if hard to catch the rs,gt turbo guys in the astra because they r very, very quick.ive heard that one of the gt turbo guys's cars can do 1/4 mile in 13sec and it is quick.
i am very intrested in the corsa and i was told that i could get a corsa with a 1.2 or no engine for up to a £1000 and get the engine and fit it myself for a £1000 but i am not sure if this true and is it that easy.
if ti is true could this do the gt turbo and rs boys or even catch up.what should i do.im on quite a tight budget.should i spend £2000 and buy a 2.0ltr nova already done or an astra gte 16v and try something with that.
on my small budget i must get those guys cause they think vauxhalls r slow and there the best.help is needed.
sorry for the long thread but i need to make them eat there words.
yes i must beat them rs and gt turbo boys, especially as they slag off vauxhalls + when they go cruise my area they think that they the buisness but i want to bring them down a peg or two,
if you wanna beat rs boys then i agree with revavleit, most likely in trying to beat themyour bumper will collect marks and scratches from peices ofmetal eminating from the exhasut when something goes thru destruct mode
I raced against my brother with his lotus elise at york dragway, we both got 15.1 secs 1/4 mile, bearing in mind that they can do 0-60 in 5.6 secs, its pretty good going. I whopped 2 r5 turbos, an rs 2000 escort a honda crx and beat a standard scooby wagon. do the 2.0 its easy to do
ok if you can wip the rs boys with your nova 2.oltr 16v what bhp is yours and what modds have you got.i bet it was expensive.
was the rs turbos standard and will i get simmilar results with a corsa?
nightrider=the rs turbos r quick but im not sure what there've got but probably a bit more that standard.but the main prob is that there is a strong, quite reliable rumour going around that one of the gt turbo boys that hang around with the rest of them has got a really quick one with a hybrid turbo etc and can do a proven 1/4 mile in 13 secs.
now you can see what im up against but im not joing them(ie get one),
as you can see its a hard task but i will be happy to atleast wip the rs boys.
sorry abou the middle bit of the last post my keyboard is playing up again.
what i meant is would i get simmilar results by doing the corsa and the rs's r quick but im not sure if there standard?
mk2 with a turbo would be quicker? Don't the mk3's weigh more?
Dave B - your mate with the corsa - how did he go about mounts and shafts? Going to cancel our PVD order - they're wasting our time waiting and we have 11 days to build it.
Engines are out of both cars - just need to source parts from somewhere else - any gen??
Urgent help required.
Cheers
PS sorry if i've stolen this post, but the info will help you too.
mk2 would be faster, but mk3 looks soooo much nicer
the mounts and shafts....erm...PVD
Told that it was a 2day delivery time, 5weeks later we get the kit. Now the kit is actaully very good, the mounts, shafts etc are all spot on.
However!!! and its a BIG however
There are no instructions on how to route the piping to the radiator, so you have to bodge that.
AND the main biggie -
the XE engine we had was from a late GSI, ie. non-dizzy. The instructions were for a dizzy XE.
The instructions are for a SPORT corsa, the one we were using was an SXI.
Luckily we managed to solve the wiring easy enough with the help of the haynes manuals from both cars.
but it slowed the conversion down from 2days, to 3.
daveb=how much did it cost your mate to do and what mods can i do to this engine to give a better bhp?was it hard ie.can a diyer do it?
another thing that im confused about is a bloke told me that i dont have to seam weld the corsa like you do a nova cause its newer and stronger but is this true +what parts of the engine bay has to be welded
he also suggested if i was going to the trouble of getting a valver in there for a little more money and effort y not get a turbo valver in there.now do you agree.
+ a mate of the gt turbo bloke that eveydently can do 1/4 mile in 13 secs wants to do a 1/4 mile race with me at santa pod later this year and im sure his going to mod his car some more but in a real race around corners ill get him like you said but when we get to a straight im finished.
should i face defeat or just have him round cornerslmao
daveb. that would great to see some pics mate, cheers.could you sort of brake down some of the costs,ie,how did the original car cost, how much the engine cost, how much for the extras(driveshafts etc).
do you know how hard and what to do as far as seam welding.have you got any pics of that.
what about brakes and suspension, ive been told if i get a gsi base they will be fine but if i get a lesser model i will have to upgrade?
dave.b=thanks very much for your help+everybody else.
dave.b. im not really well concted in the vauxhall seen like most ie,know where to get cheap parts and base cars etc so do you think it will only cost me £2000 cause if it does then thats a lot of car for the money
