C20LET Vs C20XE

roooooight, i was chatting with Meady about this last night, and i wanted to know this:

Is the LET just a 150bhp XE with 50bhp more stress on it from factory, or is it actually a "stronger" engine that's "designed" to take the extra power?

After all, the XE is a modified 2.0 8v is it not?

I know the LET and XE share a crank and rods, and that the LET has low comp, different pistons, and head bolts (i think, unsure here), so they are different to deal with the obvious difference in engine aspiration.

Reason i ask is when you're pushing a LET to 300bhp, i'm wondering is that 100bhp more on the 202 standard, or 150bhp on top of the XE figure (ie 100% increase)....

Obviously this is boling down to "how much percentage increase of power can a well maintained good condition engine take?"

170bhp Turbo 1.6 8v? ;) lol

and..... BEGIN! :D

there is no fundamental difference between the two - bore and stroke are the same, as is the head - put LC pisons in an XE and turbo cams in the head and they're pretty much the same engine - LET block has a turbo oil return feed in the front though.

I'm sure there are some other minor differences as well.

not being a turbo owner the dfferences are as follows i think:

As has been said lo-comp pistons different rods, newer blocks had strengthening webbing also and the reworked oilways different hydraulic tappets a quiet type I think !! i'm sure there are others

As Dunk said, by no means do turbo engines all come with Coscast heads. I have seen loads with GM heads and every GM head is sceptable to cracking regardless of the year it was manafactured (people call it pouras but in fact its not btw).

There have been loads of threads on here about the GM and COSCAST differences so i'm not going to post another picture explaining the differences but if you have a COSCAST keep hold of it. If you have a GM , its only a matter of time before trouble arises unless its been sorted.

Well as i understand it (best as i can remember anyway seein as the  is takin an effect) cosworth designed the 2.0 16v as a turbo lump. The 2.0XE is a high comp version with a coscast head. The C2.0XE is a high comp with GM head (slightly less power other than that no different). The C2.0LET the exact same lump with low comp pistons, different oil feed, different lifters, and different valve springs, oh yes and the small matter of forced induction.
