Would you believe it!!! All day checking for a spark and alternator wires etc - the problem was fuel!!! Didn't think so as I had 4 bars on the gauge. You may laugh, but I bought the gte, drove it 10 miles home and parked it. Never to be run again until yesterday as a Turbo. So I wasn't to know the fuel gauge lies. That, or the turbo doesn't like less than a quarter tank????
It be mighty fast, but sounds like it's holding back a bit when you get to high revs, maybe it's just the exhaust that's doing it. It's a really loud ripping noise. May have even got a flame at one point when overtaking.
Clutch atarted slipping after I'd roasted it about a bit - any gen on uprated clutches for the F20?? Gav??
eh? 300bhp? surely not cos the super uprated clutch is only up to 330bhp. i think you mean the f28 itself is officially rated to about 300, but goes much higher without problems (cos its out a fecking corvette :S)
The clutch fitted to the f28 when it leaves the factory is good - but 300bhp? Not in my experience.
I called LUK a few months ago, and they don't do an aftermarket clutch for it.
What you do find though, is that some of the uprated clutches, like Gavs one, will be using some parts that were originally LUK.
Glad you got it running Alan. Are you sticking with the f20 then? Watch out if you go for much more power..........
Gav will be able to help you with at least an EBC 30% uprated clutch.
You will always get more power out of the turbo lump when you run super - 'cos of the knock sensor. Better still, use optimax when it eventually gets here
What kind of exhaust you got on it? You''ll need at least 2 1/4 inch all the way through or it'll hold it back.
Got a boost gauge fitted? You'll notice it'll tail off the boost at high revs - so it kinda feels like it runs outta steam compared to a valver.
Get yourself down to Star for the rolling road day - lets see how it goes!
Feels good doesn't?? when your travelling down the road in 3rd and just press your foot all the way to the floor, the turbo spins up alll the way to the red line, change gear, wwwooooooooooooooooooo-tttttiiiiiiiisssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbbb (turbo whislting all the way). Hmmm getting carried away.
Just one thing that your holding back could be is the HT leads aswell as what Russ mentioned. The reason why i say this is mine needed changing. What it would do is hold back around 3-4k mark and eventually accelerate up but not as fast as it should do when booting it. But if i did it gradually it didn't seem to have a problem. we adjusted the plug gaps which made an improvement and then used a spare set of leads, problem solved.
The original clutches put in XE and LET engines from new are LUK items. If you buy new ones from Vauxhall these are crap re-conditioned units that last hardly any time at all. Avoid like the plague.
Fitting a genuine standard LUK clutch will cope with uprated power. And yes on turbo engines they do cope with 300bhp.
When the sender went on my 16v gte my car would run out of fuel and die when it hit 6 bars. but you could fill the tank up well past all bars lit. i ended up just gettin used to it.
gav can get one for an F20 as well. I'm waiting for mine to turn up. Call him and talk to him. Similar price from what I remember.
