For those interested my mate got a price out of SBD today for a the throttle boddies with all the bits needed and some machining and pre assembly, it came out at £2200 for the TP208 and about £2000 for the MT196.

Sadly out of his budget but perhaps within someone elses.

We are now stuck for ideas of what to do with his 16v engine :(

I'm wondering if it's poss to fit the LET turbo stuff to his block and run it at a lower psi.

Yeah the KKK turbo on the C20LET is too big for the engine, for the same level of drivability we'd want to get a Courtney Manifold and run a T25-T28 really.

I think you're right about it costing the same.

Carbs sound like the logical direction to go in, might try to find some cheap second hand ones and get the SBD manifold and MBE ecu and loom.

you wont need mbe, no injectors to control. unless its an ignition module, could be, never looked at the full range.
you can get manifolds from a few places, i am not impressed by the sbd one TBH and when i get the chance (ie when the engine actually ****ing runs without imploding) i will redo it

Thanks.

Just looking at the Webber kit now, they want £1050+vat for a full kit but I'm not convinced its been designed for fitting within the constraints of the Cav.

The Jenvey manifold it quite expensive, might be overkill for what we need.

In that balance now of wether or not to spend more or less, its a painful life I tell ya!

from your wording, there was some labour in there too - none of the assembly is difficult whatsoever - you could save a fair bit on that price if you do it yourself.

I imagine the bits were fitting the servo takeoff (bit more involved for the 208s but no biggy), and assembly the throttle bodies and inlet.

that's probably 100 quid in SBD labour terms, right there...

also, if you've asked for the 'full kit' they've probably included dizzyless ignition too (£60 coil pack straight away) - and possibly a lambda sensor at another £80.

keep the standard rev limit and you can forget about 60 quids worth ARP bolts and cracking open the sump, too, and the extra costs there..

what you need, imo :

ECU + map
loom
throttle bodies + fitting kit (basically nuts and bolts etc)
inlet manifold + water pipe
ram pipes (or ram pipes & spacers for 196 kit)
throttle pot
throttle linkage (saves grief)
backplate & air filter
air temp sensor
weber regulator
fuel rail
fuel pipe + fittings (much more expensive for the 208 as it uses -6JIC fittings, not push on like the 196)

you should also get 10% discount when ordering the full kit in one go..

I believe you need biege 2.5 bar injectors, not blue 3 bar injectors, as well, hopefully you got these type with the engine - unless Steve can go a map now for the blue injectors.

According to Courtney this is so, depends on how you define 'drivability' tho.

Thanks for the breakdown of parts Gary! The engine has the beige injectors. But then again if he ran carbs we could sell those aswell as the whole inlet manifold, loom and ECU. That would make the carb kit even cheaper.
