Hi guys,
I have twin 48 Dellorto's on my 16v GTE and have got a distributor and coil pack off a cav 1.8.
When I took all the fuel injection wiring harness out I dont seem to have any wires going to coil.
From coil pack there are 3 wires,
1/ -
2/ +
3/ To rev counter. My car has a digi dash .
where do all the wires go?
any ideas?
Help would be gratefully received.
cheers,
ian
well the digi dash bit is easy, on my astra there was a massive round multi plug down next to the coil and right suspension turret. In this big bundle theres a green tacho wire, i spliced my tacho feed to that and the dash worked.
As for the coil power itself, i have a branch off my new loom that goes into a 4 pin multiplug on the botton of the coil. Only two pins are used on mine, so these could concievably be the +/- but that dont help you with regards to where theyve gotta go.
many thanks oddball,
I think the - goes to earth on the body and the + goes to an ignition feed.
Any expansion on these ideas would be a help.
cheers,
ian.
Thanks cambridge,
can you expand ,where is the ignition module.
There are 2 wires on the coil, they are both connected to the coil amp under it,then the 3 wires already mentioned go where?
cheers ,
ian
ive got the exact set up you are describing that i used to run on my 16v with twin 48's.
ill go have a look on the garage floor and tell ya what goes where. i swapped it for a weber ecu thingy a while back
why did you change over to the weber alpha system?
Have you found any difference between the 2 setups?
was it easy to set up and fit?
I was offered the Alpha setup by QED for £200.
Is it worth it I ask myself!
if i can remember correctly, mk2 cav 1800 injection dizzy and amplifier and wiring from coil etc which u need to have the following -
yellow wire which is battery negative
green wire is the rev counter
black is ignition live
if you get all that then there should be the wires there to attach to the coil positive and negative and the plug that attaches onto the dizzy should be there aswell.
if got it sitting in my garage if anyone wants it, complete with a set of 16v leads n all, just let me know
eehhhhh.... on the 16v dizzy there is no advance/retard, so you will get pinking, to get it working right cheaply you must go down one of two routes,
route1 use dizzy and coil, wiring and coil amp from a 1.6 carb mk2 cav(or early 1.8 sri or gte with vacuum pipe) and connect the vacuum feed up to the inlet and set up your timing by swinging the dizzy while usig a strobe light
route 2 use dizzy, coil, ecu and map sensor and wiring from 1.6 mk3 cavvy and set octane plug to 98
oh, right ian, i get you, your using 18e dizzy and coil pack, cool. green wire to revcounter, black wire to a switched live that goes on and off with ignition, and brown to earth.
the earliest gtes had the 18e engines too.
blue/green goes to 0 on dizzy and is pin 6 on coil amp
brown/white goes to - on dizzy and is pin 3 on coil amp
black/yellow goes to + on dizzy and is pin 5 on coil amp
black goes to ignition switched feed and + side on coil and is pin4 on coil amp
brown goes to earth on car and is pin 2 on coil amp
green goes to - side of coil and revcounter and is pin 1 on coil amp
I just finished mine on the weekend. 45 weber alpha kit. I've had the head fully ported and polished. I've had the pistons pocketed for bigger cams when I can afford them. I built the engine up in 2 nights and then put it all together and in the car on the sunday.
I got the distributorless kit. I got a wasted spark coil pack for £40 and wired that up. It was a only 2 wires to make it go + & -. the other 2 available are revs and gearchange lamp. I got it running balanced the carbs and setup the idle in about 30 mins and hey presto. nice and fast, a georgous sound and heads turning everywhere as I drive about, especially old people(young hooligans you know!!)
