Vauxhalls opinion on carb cleaners

i rang vauxhalls this morning regarding the 1100 revs I'm getting since I used carb cleaner (Wynn's) and they said that using carb cleaner, espeially lots of it can corrode the gaskett between the inlet manifold and the engine, (so I may have an air leak, my wife has the car at the moment so I cannot check it). They also said that the idling control valve has lubricants in it and carb cleaner can dry this out and make it stick. I need opinions on this one please especially regarding the gaskett on the manifold.

As always

BY JOVE I THINK I'VE DONE IT !!!!!

I was driving to the shops when I had an idea, this usually happens in the middle of the night or while i'm on the toilet. But I thought Because the Wynn's had done such a marvellous job on cleaning the throttle body, I wondered if the previous owner had messed about with the screw for the throttle linkage and I thought now that the TB is nice and clean would the butterfly be a little off centre, in other wordss was too much air getting in? what with the butterfly being 'slightly' ajar and the air going through the ICV as well, it may have been more than it should have, especially now all the crap has been removed from behind the butterfly. Anyway I turned the screw a couple of times so that the butterfly did close a little more and hey presto, the revs dropped to a little under 850.

I know this story is a little drawn out but I wish to thank my parents and friends and anyone else that helped me solve this problem. It's such a relief when a problem is solved. Thanks guys for being there :D :D lmao lmao

i've noticed for a while now my revs idle at around 1,100-1,200 rpm at idle and my mpg is poor.

I'm wondering now if my butterfly is not sitting flush. So if the engine is off the butterfly should be fully closed?

I've not noticed the revs since the re-build as it the car went straight into the bodyshop. I'll have to check this when i get the car back
