Right just got a cav turbo, running 2 wd with the TX box light on. I have loads of TX boxes, I don't mind fitting one as it could do"ish" with a clutch at the same time. now how do I know its not an electronic fault, as opposed to the TX box being knackered??? is there some way to test, as I managed to drive it all the way from denham (J 17 M25) to oxford before the light came on (i knew it was buggered just thought I got lucky LOL) could it be the ECU or the bowl thingy? Is the enay way to test it? I have all the parts to repair, just interested to know before I rip it to bits.

Rich

PS this is the only vauxhall 4x4 turbo I have never broken lol, maybe its all change :)

Nope, which pins do I cross. I have no problem mending any of it if you see what I mean, I just need to know which bit to mend. To be honest I just taxed it today, I'm taking it to frog land to see my dad at the end of september, and after that it will be for sale. I'm afraid I only bought to make money one it :D

Loads of little jobs need doing, tiny bit of paintwork, and it will be proper MINT.

Ok, anyone know how to test the fault codes of the 4x4, help much appreciated :)

right bit of a strange one, the accumulator is not "wooshing" as it should be, the other strange thing is this: Its got a single wire temp senor, and yet no place for it to plug in!!!

The white/black and earth trace go to the front section of the accumulator, and brown/green and earth trace go to the "back" switch. I believe looking at my other accumulators and wiring, the with the twin wire temp sensor TX box, the tenp sensor, just is a loop between the white/black trace, and on this car the single feed temp sensor was just "tapped in" to it. Does this work, I believe the white/back wire turns the 4x4 on, and so could I just run the sensor off that?? do single and twin wire boxes interchange????

Cheers for your help!!

Well if it's not wooshing that a good step forward.
Likely to be electrical related.

Either Solonoid (check it's resistance - should be 10R)
Fuse 19 !!!
ECU (or disconnected ?)
If it's a single / no airbag car - could be temp sensor.
Brake light switch but unlikely

Dual airbag cars should have a single wire temp sensor connected above the accumulator bracket.

" are single and twin wire boxes interchange????"
With a little modification.

Let me know if it's dual airbag

andy I have a good single wire TX box, as tom bought my only good twin wire one for his cav. This is a non airbag, model, so how do I convert the single wire temp sensor for the win wire loom. I will be totally honest I have barely looked under the bonnet, I have just been driving it, 2wd is ok, its just a bit skittish in 2nd gear. I don't even know if fuse 19 is in LOL. Thanks for all the help so far rest easy in your minds this is probably the only turbo vauxhall 4WD that will ever leave my house as a complete and working car LOL, only due to migs help, and ta to oddball for the link, very useful. Andy regardless of wether is the 4x4 box or not, its got a VERY noisy clutch release bearing so I have to do the box and clutch on it anyway. If you could please tell me how to convert the wiring i would be very grateful.

cheers again

Somewhere, there should be a 2 wire connector for the temp sensor. I think it's by the servo. Bridge the 2 wires and see if the woosh test works. and go from there for testing...

If you want to use the temp sensor function then it's probably best for you to replace the txbox with an older 2 wire one (as your doing the clutch and no doubt have a pile somewhere !)

The other option is to buy a mechanical temp sensor adaptor from cav16. Not cheap though.

Anyway see if you can get the 4x4 working first

The actual transfer boxes are identical for both the single wire and two wire models. It is just the temp sensors that are different. You can get adapters to fit single to 2-wire (10mm to 18mm) and vice-versa.

i.e. The boxes are inter changeable. What is not interchangeable is the boxes across the model range. You can alway fit a box from the higher model but you should not fit a box from a lower model. The three models are 8v, 16v and turbo.
