in the last 2 weeks i have put 6 sump gaskets on and 2 new sumps and it is still leaking oil so we pulled the head off today and all piston rings have movement so it looks like it is blowing pressure back into sump and blowing the sump gaskets i have 2 options 1, pay £500.00 for new piston rings and a rebore, or i got told i can use the dry sump system what do you think? dont know how much £££ this will cost will this work? and where do i get this from? can i state the car drove fine no smoke nothing(just smoke off exhaust when oil hit it) so i dont think the piston rings have fully gone please help thanx frankie

the rings a re supposed to have movment other wise they won't seal. or do you mean excessive movement? lip at the top of the bore? glazed bores? need more details to help you out.
when i move the pistons up and down number 2 and 3 piston oil spits out of the side they seem to have exesive movement mate, thanx for the reply there is no lip at the top of bore thanx again frankie

could be glazed bores then, or busted rings. either way the engine has to come out to do it properly
sorry to sound dumb but can u describe what a glazed bore looks like!

thanks

see my little beast smokes only when im hitting near 5.5-7K rpm but when i took me head off the bore look freshly honed? so i dont understand y it smokes o just remembered there is little pits in cylinder 3 becasue the previous owner Cracked a guide!

so do u lot think its best for a another hone to smooth the pits or a rebore?

500 for new rings is a f cking ripoff, shouldnt cost more than 150 for rings and a deglazing of the bores. Chances are it will need new pistons if the the rings are fecked. TBH sump gaskets blowing seems unlikely though poor piston ring sealing. Get a leakdown test done and go from there.
To do the sump both surfaces need to be perfectly clean of any old sealant (use cellulose thinners or sommit similar to degrease), you wanna use a 6mm thread tap to remove any silicon/RTV that is stuck in the threads (if you don't do this the bolts come loose normally). Also use a 2.0 8v sump gasket plate works far better than the two crappy bits of cork as well:)
