Hiya, i have a 20xe engine too, well my block went south and so we used a 8 valve(se block) seemed to work fine, except my tappets got worn very fast, ran dry, it seems that on the xe block there is an oil restrictor valve, and on the se block there isn't, so you should need to put that valve in, im in south africa, very few spares here for the xe, i've been searching for a valve for the last 3 months, it sucks, does anyone there know where you can get these valves, or if there is something else i can use?

sorry should have said the old block is long gone valve and all, here in SA finding a 20xe engine is not easy, some guys here want R15000 for one, which is about 1900 euros , crazy, we do have a 20xe block, and we did get the valve out to look at it, but that block is destined for another car we are building, we have 2 engines, but only 1 block, local opel dealers are sharks here, they will sell you a block with the valve, for like R7000, if they can get you one, it would be great if someone over there can get me a valve and post it to me, my sister lives in london, so she could pay for all of it from there!

no real changes required, but we did take as much from the xe block as possible, basically the block is 8 valve, the rest of it is 16valve parts, but u do need to put that valve in! where u from steve? i have the whole thing dismantled at the moment, at the mechy!

I'm in Joey's. West Rand.

I have looked at doing this for a while (messages one the OOC website) but most say it is more trouble than its worth. I just want to avoid the re-licensing etc if the engine no changes (XE conversion).

Have you looked at the Daewoo head - roumer is that they fit as they were developed for the SEH block (c20SED - Daewoo code - no info on the net)

Is the "valve" really a vlave or just a narrowing restrictor? I assume that it is slowing the drainage of oil to the block from the head?

Can't the oilway be tapped and an insert made from a rod with the correct diameter "drain" hole drilled into it?

i posted the location of the photos so you can measure the hole but got distracted for this message.

Hope it helps

steve i dunno if that can be done, my meccy, who knows his 16v opels, seems to think finding this restrictor valve thingy is the only way to go, he took one out and went to some engineers to see what they could do for us but they said "nothing"
