gearbox problems

my car doesnt go into reverse all that well everytime. sometimes its fine and the next it "clunks" also gear changes are ok when going 1-2-3-4-5 but if i go 1-3 2-4 or 3-5 the gear change can be quite challenging. it happens intemittent whether or not if cars warm or not.

i personally think it is the oil but the crunching that sometimes occurs when going into reverse is making me think this could be the synchro wearing. linkage just need reset too maybe? there is a slight oil wouldnt say leak but npoticable around the gearbox as i think the clutch is new.

ive got oil to change but im dumb and cant find the plug to see how much oil is in the gearbox so havent drained box and replaced.

also is there any other checks i can do to make sure its not the internals that are fecked?

Im just going by whot it says in the haynes cav manual
page 7A.2 under general description number 7
"the F18 transmission includes a gear set brake to enable
silent engaging of reverse gear"

I could be wrong though.
interesting, not seen a 'gear brake' in any vaux box, but i could be mistaken! maybe the f18 has it and the f20 doesent? must admit i've not stripped an f18, just presumed they were the same as an f20
