I have a cally turbo I'm smokinga round in at the moment. I know the rear diff is shagtged, its whining its tits off, however, does the F28 have a "whine" to it, or is it the T/box, as the whine seem to come from the middle by my feet.

Its deffo not the turbo, just concerned wether its the box or not, as its the one going into my astra.

i have a gearbox whine at half throttle from 4th onwards but it is very quiet infact other people can't hear it if you know what i mean u just know the sounds on your car if you have had it awhile
apparrently its the lay shaft bearing that takes the brunt and it can wear its way through the box and the shaft exits into the clutch
vts are doing full gearbox rebuilds at about £1000 but are working on the price due to unobtainable bearings

Its not notchy, doesn't crunch, (i know this has nothing to do with bearings) but it seems fine apart from taht, if anything the noise dissapears over sort of 70 mph (and so does most of the diff noise starngely enough!!!)

I think its the TX box, doesn't seem to come from the left of the car more the centre.

well we shall see, when i fit it, if it gets to the point where its so bad I guess I will just have to fork out for a new one.

just driven it, its actually noisy and whiney through all gears, so it must be the TX box, as in 6th its direct drive down the mainshaft I believe,, and the noise would be different in evergear as it is it just sounds like a bearing getting louder and louder.

heres hoping

You could always strip the txb down and sell any bits that are in good condition eg the Viscous coupling is sealed so won't have been damaged by bits of metal in the oil ( but may be knackered for other reasons though )
