Can anybody tell me the thickness of a standard 20xe headgasket...
I have just had my head skimmed, (only by 0.008") but now the pistons make contact with the valves
it looks like i've managed to get away without any major damage but now i need to buy a thicker headgasket.
I dont want to drop the CR too much so can anyone tell me what thickness i need to buy - and does anyone know anywhere other than sb dev that sell thicker gaskets,
That's 0.2mm, I would have thought they wouldn't touch, although it's a dodgy thing to do on a high-compression engine anyway.
They probably skimmed more than they say. Assume the worst and get it measured properly. It may not even be skimmed straight, either. Do you trust this workshop?
the owrkshop is called hamlins, they are a very respected company in the southwest,
but everywhere has its off days.
Johnsons want £90 to make the gasket which is cool, as the last one i ordered for an integrale was awesome quality, but i dont know what thickness to ask for for the XE.
the valves have only just made contact withthe pistons, it looks like all it has done is to remove the carbon off the valves/pistons.
i have a 1.97mm cometic gasket on minewhich a i got from SBD, and you can safley use it with the cams im running with no problems and its fine, so im sure it will be fine on a std one,
Maybe the head had allready been skimed in the past,i cant see the first skim of a head causing valve contact, unless someone took a feww mm off.
How close do the valves and pistons get in a standard XE engine?
You sure the timing isnt just way out causing valve contact?
Dave
unfortunately it looks like the head had been skimmed before
in answer to how close do the pistons get to the valves - TOO BL0ODY CLOSE in my case...
