X14XE And X16XEL Same ECU?

Hey guys i'm really nervous about this 1.6 engine swap. i'm not worried about getting the engine into the car, i'm worried about getting it running.

I've been reading my haynes manual and from what i read the 14XE and 16XEL may actually have the SAME ECU???

If anyone could shine some light on this? would the ECU from my 14XE work with my new 16XEL?
Seems a pretty weird question i know but i can't find any evidence to say i'm wrong!

If not assasin offered me a Corsa GSi ECU/Transponder/Pickup. I've noticed that the corsa GSi is the C16XE and the astra 1.6 is X16XEL is the ECU compatible? Also i've noticed the astra 1.6 gets its peak torque at 3200 rpm as opposed to my engines being 4000 rpm. I would prefer the lower revs torque curve.
I get the feeling with the corsa GSi being a lighter car and the engine putting out 109hp (10hp more than X16XEL) that the torque curve wouldn't be as good as the standard astra 16XEL one.

Any help appreciated

I have loads of X16XEL bits for sale, including an ECU and transponder chip..
Do you have the transponder from the barrel also - i think you need all 3 parts (ECU/chip transmitter/barrel reciever) from the same car to make it work.

How much you after for them?

What car did it come out of evil?

The receiver is still on the car mate lmao..
I got the chip from the key and the ecu here in my room (tbh, I thought it was just these that were needed).

Price... was looking for £50 delivered.

Came out of Kirstys 1.6 16V Astra Sport. Had to do an engine swap when I threw a rod in the X16XEL (and we chucked a C20NE in).

Well i have both your and assasin names wrote down by tommorow i'll have visited kerr and smith and know how the immobiliser system works. if i do not need the transponder reciever on the barrell then i would prefer the Astra one, just to be sure the engine runs correctly.

Evil if i need it i'll give you a shout. I'll pop by kerr and smith tommorow (local VX dealer) and let you know by tommorow afternoon. I assume its a MK4 then? don't think they ever put th 16XEL into anything else

Assassin - thanks for offering that ECU but with it being a different engine - i have one shot at getting this right money wise i can't afford an ECU that doesn't work - i'm sorry but if i can have an astra ECU i would prefer it, but just really want to say thanks for the offer. If i have any money any time soon, i might take it off your hands, just to see if the different mapping makes any differance.

Cheers for the photo mate, i'll take the part number with me to kerr and smiths and compare em to the ones they bring up on the EPC.

I'll also compare the senders to be sure that the MK3 barel sender fits into my car's ignition.

I'll let you know as soon as i do evil, thanks

According to Total Vauxhall The MK3 Astra 1.6 Sport was a C16XE. Little help?!

Grabbed the haynes manual there. According to the manual both the X14XE and the X16XEL run the "Multec S Multi-Point injection" injection system, does that help any?

I'm not sure mate.
What was the HP on your engine, do you remember?

#18 ·
i'm reading the page just now.

If you remembered the HP
XEL has 99
XE has 110

Parkers says the 1.6 Sport MK3 has 99 suggesting the XEL.

Would you say Total Vauxhalls figures or Parkers are more trustworthy?

lmao .... erm.... neither??
Someone did once tell me what bhp it was and 99 does ring a bell.... can;t see it being 110, the C20NE is only 115 and is loads quicker than the old 1.6

Well had a little read at that page (great link BTW)

Whacked your ECU model number in and came back

(X16XEL)
Astra 1.6 litre 16 Valve
95 on 2,4 Delco Multec S
BPJA
16192839
XED6BPJA

Guess its the right one :)

a friend of mine ( mechanic owns a vauxhall garage ) who has an ASTRA MK4 X14XE 16V model of 1999 reprogrammed the ECU with the programme
of ASTRA MK4 1.6 16V X16XEL
a lot of owners of mk4 1.4 16v do this thing here in GREECE
i will ask for further information
torque in low revs

#25 ·
That sounds more like it mate lol, keep my ECU and run the correct management lol!

The ECU's for these engines are bought without any program, the chip with the maps etc are seperate - I don't think you can reprogram them with Tech2. So the guys in greece are probably just buying the program chip from Opel - cost you more than Evils ECU....
