HELP!!! Engine not stopping

Hi being new to this community (and it does look like a great placeot hopefully get help) I am not sure of any ettiquette required so please bear with me.My problem is that when I stop my car the engine carries on almost as if it is draining the last bitof fuel before it stops and I have no idea (sorry not over technically minded with cars).

Can anybody suggets a reason but better still a way to cure this problem.

Many thanks in advance RPM

yeah thats what i would guess. check cam timing first. also as stated you can get carbon build up in the head/pistons, little specks begin to glow white hot when the engine is running. when you switch off it acts like a spark plug and carries on igniting the remaining fuel.

It's worth checking the fuel cut off solenoid on the side of the carb if it has one. Follow the wire on the front of the carb, if it splits in two, follow the right hand one to a black thing that looks like a flying saucer. When 'off' it should resist air flow, and open when it's 'on'. Only the later ones (1987 on) had this.
It's probably carbon build up, so just ignore it. I find if I let mine idle for a few seconds before switching off reduces the chances of it happening.
