Fuel flow dampener fitting

I've decided to fit a fuel flow dampener to my set up. I have noticed that the Astra GSi doesn't have one, I'm not sure why as every other XE / LET set up I've seen has got one. Maybe its something to do with an in-tank pump? I can't be bothered to really think about it at the moment.

I have been suffering from massive injector noise which is a lot louder than it used to be with the engine in the Cav (only difference in setup was the FFD).

I have swapped the pump for an uprated Sytec model and changed the filter last week. What I have noticed is that I can feel the pulses in the fuel line through the filter. The pulses tie in with the injectors opening. As I'm running batch injection I'm assuming that the massive amount of fuel being dumped pretty much all the time is causing a pulse along the fuel line. The FPR is keeping things in check after the rail and as much as it can along the rail but I'm thinking I need the flow dampener before the rail make sure any pulses entering the rail are eliminated.

If this is the case and it works I'm not sure what consequences this will have with regards to the map I'm running, if anything I reckon it will overfuel.

Any thoughts?

I've got one coming from Autovaux, should be at home when I get back so I'm going to give it ago and see what happens.

I'm going to place it in the normal position, i.e. between tank and filter and if that makes no difference maybe try somewhere a bit further "down stream" near the rail.

yeah definately has to be near the pump. its the pump thats causing the pulse in the fuel lines, not the injectors.

i noticed after fitting a new damper on mine, it cured the flickering pressure guage needle, which was nice because i knew it was doing its job.

Don't worry its gone in one ear and out the other ;) (as per usual).

I'm down on compression on No.2 compared to the rest but I took the head off to investigate the lifters and valves etc but didn't really find anything. I have suspsions regarding some of the lifters but I'm picking up a new set at a good price this week so I'll be able to fit them soon.

Apart from that its mainly injector noise really. Surely I shouldn't be able to feel a pulse through the fuel filter? Shouldn't it be a constant flow?

I think the Astra 3 Haynes manual or similar does mention a fuel flow damper on C20XE - but like you mine doesn't have one either:confused:

I'm not sure I can feel pulsing in the fuel lines, either Rob..........

You've done away with the charcoal cannister I presume? Is the tank ventilated properly? Could try running it up with the fuel cap off?
