Help me please

Hi i have purchased a opel tigra 2000 the problem i have is insuring it.All insurance comparison sites doesnt list my car with the reg number . when i give my reg its listing it as a opel astra elegance.i have tried not to enter the reg then it says opel didnt make a tigra in 2000.I have spoken to dvla they have it registered as just a opel with no model, i have spoken to vauxhalls and they can confirm the reg and chassis number do belong to the car but no explantion or what i can do about it listing as a astra .i was then passed onto another vauxhall dept to which i was told they could supply a headed letter confirming the make and model and what country it was imported from at a cost of £100 how can i find the imported country myself? what can i do?

It's a grey import so there's no chance of getting a quote online for it - most systems only cater for UK spec. You'll have to do some ringing around insurers for prices and tell them it's an import, then they should be able to quote you over the phone. If it's RHD then it's most likely been imported from the Republic of Ireland so if they ask you can say you assume that's where it's come from (if you don't know 100% though don't state it as fact).

I wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem insuring it. I know of a number of grey import Opels over here due to our proximity to Ireland and no-one seems to have bother insuring them.

Thanks Dave it is a RHD and believe it or not i have been on the phone all day and not getting any where decline after decline :'(

Direct insurers can be a pain - they want plain old ordinary unmodified UK spec cars with no element of thinking required to process a sale. Your best bet is to go via a Broker - try mainstream ones like Swinton or (probably better) more specialist firms like Adrian Flux or HIC.

thanks i know have one through keithmichaels not cheap £748 compared to £427 for the vauxhall tigra before :/
