Give Tradesure a try, they were cheapest by about £200 for my mate who got traders the other month!

Yeah, they're a Tradewise broker and tradewise gave me a very good quote, it was about 600 iirc to drive pretty much anything.

Do you have to be in the motor trade? Or can anyone do it?

If you do a bit of servicing for folk and buy and sell the odd car then you *are* in the motor trade

That said, you should probably avoid the mechanical stuff because you'd need liability insurance. Tell them you buy and sell a few cars a year part time.

Just to warn people, my insurance company this year has asked several questions, centred around how 'legit' the buisness is. i.e do you pay tax etc

Yeah they ask if you're a registered company but you can just say you're a sole trader doing it part time - don't think there's any issue with that? Although possibly because of the recent hikes loads of people are trying to get trade insurance I guess.

Don't really understand why you need so many policies - even the multicar ones are ****, they're just two policies on one piece of paper price-wise. I can only crash one car at a time surely.

Yeah I'm 29, you won't find anywhere that'll insure you. Possibly get put as a named driver on someone's trade policy though, that's usually a lower age?

Exactly my dilemma. I've got 5 cars, all of which I want to drive and tax... some for a few miles a year, some for 10k+ a year. They have all got changing mods, which I really CBA to update every time I fit or remove something so a trade policy is ideal.

Buzz you'll probably struggle at 22 to be honest :-/

I've been with Tradex 10 years.

They do a range of policies to suit whatever trade or hobby you have.

I'm looking at getting a trade policy. I do quite a bit of servicing and vehicle repairs. Also when the odd bargain comes up I do buy to sell on.
I'm not VAT registered and do it part time outside my normal job.
Will they cover me and what do you guys pay?

Re: Cheap car traders insurance sites

Don't worry about VAT registration Terry it's not related to being a legit business or not, it's just for businesses turning over more than a certain amount.

If you buy and sell the odd car, and declare any profits / register as self employed to HMRC that is enough to satisfy most traders policies.

I've been through a claim just recently and they do ask a lot of questions, but as long as you're honest with them from the start and they accept you - you've got no reason to fear anything.

Interesting read. Can any of the above insurers include vans and recovery trucks on the policy's? Or are they just for domestic vehicles?

Re: Cheap car traders insurance sites

How does a traders policy get over the issue of 'if its taxed it has to be insured'? Do you give them the reg's and they put them on MID? Or do you have the certificate with you and keep getting pulled by 'traffic' cars with ANPR?

I keep one car on a 'normal' policy and the others, all at least 10 years old, on a classic policy including my Turbo. Fully comp the 'lesser' cars are about £120 the Turbo about £180.
