I like it. The SRi versoin looks really cool up close. Can't wait to see the GSi if/when it comes out. The 3dr sounds like it will be something worth checking out too.

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

I preferred the look of the previous astra. This looks too french or even a bit like a yaris.
It's the back I don't like, front isn't too bad. This looks more of a females car (don't want to offend anyone, just opinion, and I'm male) the previous one looked more of a blokes car.

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

i hate it too.what are vauxhall trying to do?.like abit like a ford puma from the front and that back end is just awful.i say older astra are better like mk1 mk2.i cant understand y vauxhall can make a car like the vx220 and then bring a very boring mk5 out.and it has 18inch wheels??.crap.

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

I really like it. nice styling, and at last vauxhall have created a car with decent interior. Can't wait for the performance versions. I have heard about the proposed 240bhp twin turbo astra VXR. will there also be a GSi or is VXR the new flagship? does anyone know?

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

AFAIK the VXR's are replacing the GSi's as the performance versions.

THE 3 DOOR

IMO The front needs to be sharper and that pillar above the rear window is to thick. I expect it will look good in real life though.

Got to admit that's so much a "girls" car. If it were any more feminie it would have wings

That photo is its worst angle, the rear was designed by another team. Good looking front front and side. Suits bigger alloys.

My God, in the '70s detractors of the Austin Princess used to say sarcastically that the front and back of the car looked like they were designed by two people who didn't talk to each other: 30 years later it's REALLY happened!

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

Hi I'm a new member... I know there's been a lot of bad views on this thread, but I've had one on order since June and it's now at my local dealer. It's a 1.6i Easytronic. Admittedly it wasn't my first choice having come from owning 3 Audis and 5 BMW's... yes I know I've got my flack jacket ready now for the torrent of abuse!! But I like the shape of it and it looks far better (and newer) in the flesh than a boring Blue Badge Focus!
Will post again when I get the first drive!!

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

And yes I agree, that's the worst picture angle to view it from. Looks mean from the front... ok a bit Almera like but what new car doesn't look the same??? Golf 5 looks a lot like a Seat... new Roller is awful... at least the new Astra is completely different to the old one... I reckon its a ploy by all manufacturers to make us drive clone cars like they did in the 40s!
What did Henry Ford say... any colour as long as it's black?

Re: What do you think of the Astra Mk5?

I think the VXR Astra is a stunner there are other cars that have the similar shapes but then all makes and models are going that way to get a sports hatch. I love the Astra but more than that I love the V8 monaro.
