Also people always avoid the expensive petrol as it over £1 a litre but on a full tank in my nova its about £3 more than the 'cheaper' stuff.

Well worth it I think.

i read that even the shell stuff looses somthing in it over time wich gives less power and corrodes gaskets. i think i read it on an sbd site.

In one of the magazines they tested a highly tuned 2.0 turbo on different fuels 'V power' gave a 25bhp gain over supermarket 95RON, with NO other changes................when both optimised the power difference increased to 35bhp.(and 16bhp over Tesco 99RON with no changes).

performance.............well on this site that normally means more power to the wheels, not more miles per gallon.
More power always costs more money, The power gain is about 5% max is that worth 5p/litre obviously not for every day driving!

i use tesco super and do find that it improves the performance on my cavalier.
if there was a shell or bp closer id use that, but i find that the gains from using tesco99 to tesco95 are sufficient enough to justify paying the extra few pence per litre

I always use BP fuels as Its about the cheapest of the top name petrol stations around my way. (and my car and the g-f's car play up like hell on the cheapand nasty supermarket fuels).

It all depends on if your ECU has the capabilities of utilising 98/99 octane fuel's benefits.

swap the ron sensor by the water tank

most of the time i use V-power in my C-Let.
i once tried half a tank of 'normal' (Jet i think) fuel and the throttle response was poor in comparison. i'll stick with what i think makes my van run better

sounds daft but depending on what type of journey i do, with shell v power i get a few more miles to the tank than i would on bog standard petrol, a few others i know have noticed this too depending on what car they drive. performance wise the response isnt much better or that noticable upto standard petrol to be honest. it just works out that for a couple of quid more i get more mileage in comparison to normal fuel.

Everyone told me I wouldnt notice the difference in my current car (Ford Puma, stil waiting for the Astra to arrive), but I definately noticed a big difference. Not only did it make take off quicker but it also made the engine run more efficiently, so even though I was paying more for it, it was lasting longer. A lot longer!!

this is the big con iam afraid!
say on 50L of V power @ 108p extra per litre
Tesco's own @ 100p per litre
8px50=£4 [nearly another gallon]

cars running on 40miles per gallon ......
one might go for the tesco's own as you will afford more volume of petrol for the same money
hence you will get more miles to the tank even with a little less calories?!

There has been top gear tests or by others and they found that there was infact a 2bhp drop in power with so called performance additives !!

Hmmm was the air temp / pressure etc exactly the same as the previous day??
just a drop in temp with higher pressure having denser oxygen can make all the diffo
as diffo is less than 5%?

Just thought I'd add 2 pence worth.
Worked in service stations most of my life, just coz the petrol tanker has Mobil livery on the outside it doesnt mean thats where the stuff inside came from. Some of the stuff can be a bit bogus too.

Have a great day!

Re: Which Petrol Do You Prefer For Performance?

V-Power has the best effect on my 14SE, otherwise Tesco's 99 as it's cheap and the engine sounds a lot smoother. I've heard a rumour that Tesco's 99 and BP Ultimate are the same thing?
