Exclamation We Are Moving! (Now Complete)

On Thursday I will be closing the site first thing in the morning in order to move MIGWeb to a new server. As a result of this, you will not be able to access the site until the move is complete. I aim to have the work done by 2pm, but the transfer of the domain name may take longer.

This move is not an upgrade, but a cost saving exercise. As you know, MIG is a non profit making organisation and as such, our funds are limited. Due to the recent weakening of the pound, the cost of our existing (which is based in the USA), have gone up considerably because we currently pay in dollars. We are moving to a company which operates in the UK, so the monthly cost will not be dictated by fluctuations in the exchange rate. The server is also slightly cheaper, so the move will save MIG a decent amount of money each month - money which we can put back into other aspects of the club.

We apologise for this inconvenience and hope that the site is up an running quickly and without any unforeseen problems.

    Mike
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Re: We Are Moving! (MIGWeb Downtime on Thursday)

Just out of curiosity, who will we be having our hosting from now?

As you say, if we are transferring domain names then it might take a while for the updated DNS records to filter down through all of the ISPs.

I'll be closing the site at around 7am.

Jack - we are moving to a 1and1 unmanaged server, similar in spec to the current server.
