| [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday On Sunday I will be performing major updates to the website software as well as updating backend server software. I have been preparing for these upgrades over the last month and therefore I'm hoping things will go smoothly. MIGWeb will be down for most of Sunday as a result. A message explaining this will be displayed, but due to the nature of some updates, will not be viewable at all times. A new look MIGWeb will follow a few weeks after these updates.
I will send out a reminder email to all active users on Saturday.
For the technical people, I'll be updating Apache including php and SQL. vBulletin 3.7 just came out, so I'll be updating this too - but due to the number of modifications to the MIGWeb forums, many other features will need to be reinstalled, updated or rewritten as a result. The upgrade of php and SQL should give use a good performance boost too.

Just out of interest, who takes responsibility for updating the OS and all of the other software on the server?

| Re: MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday Yeah - I do all backend and front end server stuff (basically everything as the server is unsupported). I'm no expert, but I have experience and Google on my side! lol. |

Its one advert per page, once you are passed it it is gone.
I thought it felt odd to start with, but now I hardly notice them.

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday Im guessing as it attracts more attention (Obviously ) where its placed.
imo its not exactly a huge problem - its only 1 small block when you pass the first post on any page - just a case of getting used to ignoring it !
Much better than it was before when they were every 3/4 posts & down the side ect..... |

To be fair I dont really notice them after 24 hours of mig

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday No ads on Firefox/Linux with Adblock plus enabled
Not done it to specifically bypass the ads/sponsored links but my feckin Fujitsu Siemens laptop with Shi$ta installed lost its internet connection 6 times in 10 minutes so I've rebooted with Ubuntu |

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday The removal of previous adverts was yes, but when Mike has finished getting everything back up and running, as well as a refreshed view of the site I understand the intention is to use this space to promote discount offering companies and those who wish to advertise with MIG, and not just generically generated adverts by google. |

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday Dom, why not support mig and see the ads? You are only getting an unsightly gap instead. |

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday I wouldn't say it leaves a big gap........
Being partially dyslexic I find it fairly distracting having the adverts slotted inbetween posts. I have to read and re-read stuff quite often.
I'm only on Linux at the moment as Vista is having an off evening - most of my browsing is done through windoze so the ads are not blocked but tonight my laptop is refusing to maintain an internet connection so I'm using my dual boot to browse through linux instead which has the adblocker installed on the browser. |

| Re: [Complete] MIGWeb Downtime on Sunday Yes Jack - but people do click on them, and if you can't see them, you won't. The fact that they are in a more visible place means that people are more likely to see well targeted ads. |
