Thumbs up Changes to "New Posts" link

Today I have changed how the "New Posts" link works. From now on, this feature will not give results from the off topic forums (i.e. Off Topic, Testing, Humour etc....)

This should result in more of a focus on the on topic forums, and hopefully result in better content on the site in general.

Cheers.

Mike

Excellent idea Mike.

If you want to talk off topic, go and find it.

My thoughts exactly. Such a simple thing - hopefully it'll pay off.

Well done Mike.

Sorry to upset the apple cart, but I liked it before. However, I got my subscribed ticks back so I'm happy!

Infact, I really do miss it, just had to trawl through off topic manually, was a proper pita!!

I preferred to have all the new posts on the site brought up by the "new posts" button.

Is there no way of having an option in the control panel to turn this function on or off on an individual basis ?

Chances are I'll only check the off topic part of the forums a couple of times a week.

Actually, having just clicked it, I'll say it's an improvement. I'm one of those people that like reading the technical stuff and haven't been on MIG as much as the other forums simply because it was a pain to manually look for new technical posts.

The visible content through the search looks appealing now.

Call me boring if you must...

Ian.

Would rather just have everything, if your looking for something then you know what area to go to and search that.

Could there not be an option in everyone's profile to decide whether to show off-topic posts or not? That would keep everyone happy (a seemingly impossible goal)

For the better I say.

Off topic is a distraction most of the time....

Yes there is, but you are missing the point. This isn't just about de-cluttering the new posts results, this is about putting more focus on the on topic forums. Adding it as an option will not have this effect.

I will see how this goes over the next few days/weeks and review it then.

The law of averages says that as more people join the site, their enthusiasm towards Vauxhalls and technical stuff decreases inversely proportionately.

You can't have more members joining up and and increase in technical posts.
