I am very curious about this 'quick jump' thing now! In the 5 and a bit years I have been here, I have never used it!!

Seems to be running really fast here, although server load has spiked a few times.

I'm finding the pages are loading fast, where as at this time yesterday they were generally not loading at all!

I find the search facility to be really slow, not sure if thats just me?

I'm keeping an eye on server load - something is causing it to spike and Laf may be onto what is causing it. We should have this ironed out soon. Basically, the site is lighteningly quick except when the spikes happen.

Thumbs up

There has been a lot of work over this last week on the site and server. Hopefully users will have noticed an increase in performance throughout the site, even at busy times in the evenings.

Here is a run down of what has been done since the last update:
  • my.inf settings optimised to increase performance for the sql system.
  • httpd.conf settings optimised.
  • xcache installed to cache php scripts increasing speed throughout the site.
  • vBulletin upgraded to the current version.
  • Photopost upgraded to the latest version.
  • Removal of the vBulletin announcements system to save 1 database query on the forum list pages.
  • Template cache system installed. Templates are also now cached with xcache.
  • Removal of vB Search Engine Optimisation - as this software was causing excess server load.

The following still needed to be done:
  • Upgrade Php with GD2 support.
  • Upgrade Sql.
  • Possible upgrade of Apache
  • Further minor forum optimisations.

The good news is that I have reactivated the "Forum Jump" menu. I am unsure if I will ever re-enable the system that shows which users are viewing specific forums or threads as this isn't a feature that is needed, but turning this on does put extra load on the server.

The removal of vBSEO will mean that most URLs on this site have now changed. The software made URLs content specific so that search engines ranked the pages better. We are now back on the default system. As a result, any bookmarks or links the MIG that you made that were URLs adjusted by vBSEO, will no loner work. This includes links in signatures, links you posted on other forums, links in old notification emails etc. Please update these links if you can.

If you find any problems with the site, let me know here.

Thanks.

You been working on it this morning?

Just ive been signed in on a differant PC to usual so havnt clicked save my password, and ive been continually signed out.

Has that been you, or is iot the system? As if its the system been set with a low timeout it cant be a good thing for people to be continually querying SQL when its un-needed.

(Not a critisism, well constructive)

Maybe its time to get a separate dedicated mySQL server? Instead of relying on the same machine for severing both php and mySQL.

Very true, and its all a balancing act, could maybe upgrade to a higher specification web server.

I do not what your hosting specs are...
