ID:	4915   With its flowing lines and signature sculpted blade, the new Astra will carry the spirit of the Insignia into the compact class, offering customers a premium feel, while maintaining Vauxhall’s value for money promise.

Inside, the premium theme will continue, with a warm, wrap-around interior and a wing-line sweep that links the instrument panel to the door.

An all-new chassis promises to maintain the Astra’s reputation for class-leading dynamics, while new engines will maximise low-end torque to achieve miserly fuel consumption.

Also expect to see clever and practical features on the new Astra, taking inspiration from systems like the Corsa’s FlexFix integrated carrier.

The new Astra will major on technical innovation, such as the Front Camera System used in the upcoming Insignia, which combines traffic sign recognition with a lane departure system, improving occupant safety and potentially helping drivers avoid fines.

ID:	4914   Triple Eight provide a raft of different tuning parts for all VXR models, but as you can see from the attached film clip, our tame race driver is showcasing all the modifications available on the taut and rapid Astra VXR. Opt for the Remus exhaust, and not only will you get a taste of what our BTCC drivers hear as they accelerate out of Woodcote bend, but you’ll also get up to 20PS of extra power – and all for just £850 fitted.

Of course, the Astra VXR can take more power, and that’s why Triple Eight can ‘adapt’ your ECU to liberate a further 49PS, bringing with it a performance hit that would keep Mr Giovanardi happy for more than a lap or two.

But power is nothing without control, which is why Triple Eight offer a wheel and tyre package, comprising bespoke 18”, heat-treated wheels with 235/40 x 18 Toyo Proxy tyres for £1380. Complementing this is the VX Racing brake kit, developed with AP Racing, which includes... [Read More]

ID:	4537   Known as the Sports Tourer, it will be available to UK buyers in the second quarter of 2009 and will feature two new engines – a more powerful turbodiesel and a smaller capacity turbocharged petrol unit – in addition to the five powerplants available from launch in the saloon and hatchback models. An ecoFLEX Sports Tourer with competitively low emissions and fuel consumption will also be available in the near future.

Mark Adams, Vice-President of GM Europe Design, described the Sports Tourer’s design as athletic, powerful and elegant. “However,” says Mark, “this is a stand-alone model and not simply an estate version of the saloon. In fact, all the bodywork aft of the B-pillars is unique to the Sports Tourer. We’ve also ensured that its design combines the sculptural artistry and technical precision found in the saloon and hatch models.”

Designers gave the rear of the Sports Tourer a unique, yet cohesive appearance by pulling the wraparound tailgate deep... [Read More]

ID:	4504   A 4.7 metre-diameter orb was suspended by a crane high above Potters Fields Park today before amassive object fell 45 metres to earth - in just six seconds - in a breath taking stunt. That object was the new Vauxhall Insignia, a car never seen before by the British public.

More than 300guests were on hand to watch the new car plunge from the orb as it was suspended in the air. Alain Visser, Chief Marketing Officer for GM Europe, who drove the Insignia onto the stage after it landed safely on the ground, said:

“We are very proud of the Insignia and decided that an extraordinary car needed an extraordinary entrance, that’s why we chose to drop in at one of London’s most frequented and iconic locations - Tower Bridge just next to the London Assembly”.

The Insignia debuts tomorrow, July 22, at the British International Motor Show, where Vauxhall will announce the vehicle’s price in the UK. Sales begin immediately... [Read More]

ID:	4501   Defending champions VX Racing continue to dominate the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), with seven wins from 15 races this year and an impressive 13 podium finishes.

Reigning BTCC Champion and VX Racing driver Fabrizio Giovanardi currently leads the driver’s classification with 145 points, with fellow VX Racing star Matt Neal snapping at his heels in second place just 23 points behind. The VX Racing team continues to hold tight at the top of the team standings, with a 137 point advantage over their nearest rivals.

The reliability and consistency of the Vectra VXR’s second season this year, sees VX Racing heading into rounds 16, 17 and 18 at Snetterton as the most successful team so far. Both the team and Giovanardi will continue the fight to defend their titles at the Snetterton rounds.

Following the team’s four podium finishes at the last meeting at Croft, including a win from Giovanardi, all three drivers hope to... [Read More]

ID:	4498   Vauxhall introduces a first: a dual-function camera that not only reads speed limit and no-overtaking signs and displays them on the instrument panel, but also alerts drivers when they unintentionally veer out of their lane. Known as Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Departure Warning, the two systems improve driving safety, reduce stress and can even prevent costly speeding tickets.

“These new features follow Vauxhall’s philosophy of enhancing driving excitement by assisting drivers without reducing their level of control,” explains Hans Demant, Managing Director of GME Engineering. “That means the system gives drivers information, but it doesn’t intervene.”

Known as the Front Camera System, the wide-angled, high-resolution camera and processors were jointly developed by Vauxhall/Opel engineers and specialists from supplier Hella. The camera, located between the windscreen and the rear-view mirror, detects road signs and lane markings. It’s not much... [Read More]

ID:	4497   These are the very first official shots of the soon-to-be-launched Insignia’s interior, showing the immense attention to detail Vauxhall’s designers have lavished on the car’s cabin. Highlights include chronometer-inspired instruments, use of high-quality fabrics and materials, and a unique instrument lighting system.

First impression is of Insignia’s bold, wrap around interior, dominated by the signature ‘wing’ that flows from the front instrument panel and dives into the door panels. The surfaces from the exterior’s ‘blade’ feature are echoed in the shape of the interior grab handle, where the bright accent material sweeps dramatically into the door armrest.

The cabin’s interior lighting gives Insignia a unique night-time appearance. Vauxhall’s designers have added a warm amber-coloured ambient light to enhance the night driving environment. The instrument cluster is illuminated white, but on pressing the ‘Sport’ button, the lighting turns red to... [Read More]

ID:	4465   VX Racing displayed outstanding race performances despite difficult weather conditions in today’s round 13, 14 and 15 of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Croft, North Yorkshire.

The Luton-based manufacturer took a brilliant race win in race three thanks to a stunning drive from Fabrizio Giovanardi behind the wheel of the Vectra VXR. Matt Neal added to the glory with three podium positions. The team continues to dominate the BTCC Drivers’, Manufacturers’ and Teams’ Championship following its most successful points’ weekend of the season to date.

Race one - The reigning BTCC Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Champions secured its first podium position of the day with Neal finishing in second in a chaotic and wet first race.

The race was started in extremely difficult conditions with the inevitable red flag being shown on the third lap, due to an incident involving two cars.
