Last batch of pulse converters for this year.

Making a small batch (6 to 8 units) of pulse converters at the moment. Boards are done and I've started assembling them.

Any orders taken by Monday will be sent out by the end of next week.

Just thought I'd let you know in case I miss sending anyone a mail who has asked to be updated on their progress.

These are the old design ones. The new design ones are still being worked on but I've had so many people asking for the old ones I made another batch of them.

    Location: Wellingborough/Mail order
Price: £35 inc post per unit.

If you need to ask you don't need one lmao

On a more serious note, these are the bits of kit that you fit if you have a V6 conversion / 4 cylinder clocks (or vice versa) so your rev counter will read correctly. They also let you adjust the input/output ratio of pulses for your speedo so if your speedo is reading incorrectly after a conversion it can sort them out.

Would this let me wire a digi dash into a diesel nova?

Its not been tested on a diesel alternator driven signal but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

It comes with a 30 day money back guarantee anyway so if it doesn't do what you want it to, send it back and get a refund (you pay for return postage !)

I've sold one to someone doing virtually the same thing - he was using a set of VX220 clocks in some kind of Vaux.

dom - would this work from a 4cyl to v8 as my mates got a tvr running gear in an escort cosworth but still using the 4cly cossie clocks so revs are bouncing off too soon lol

Yup should work fine. It will happily reduce the signal from 2:1

These have been designed to be run from a reasonably clean ECU tachometer output but have been run with some success with a coil driven output.

Ironically P&P to Holland is the same as the UK (crazy postage system here going by packet size as well as weight).

Only downside is that it cannot be tracked/insured unless you pay an extra £6.

So £35 inc P&P but at your risk or around £40 including tracking/insurance.

I've got one on my Cavalier GSi, it converts the RPM signal from the V6 engine from 6 pulses to 4, so the 4x4 ECU can understand it. Previously it was cutting the 4x4 out over 5000rpm. Works perfectly
Mate also has one to convert the rev counter on his Mk2 Cav V6.

Was wondering if this could be used when fitting a MK3 astra trip computer into a MK 2 GTE. As far as I know, the pulse for the fueling info needs deviding by 4 to give accurate readings???
If I told you I was a compulsive lier, would it be the truth??

    Nope it probably wouldn't.

The fuelling pulse is measured by its width as well as its frequency (i.e. injector on time). It can correct frequency but it won't do pulse width.

On the other hand, if its the speed signal that is wrong to the trip computer then it can correct this as that is based on frequency.

I know Mark T off here knows a man who can reprogram the trip units so they read correctly.

Re: Last batch of pulse converters for this year.

So, received the converter, wired it up, and here's what happened:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WkOW9B8qOg
(diesel alternator + digidash rev. counter)

It was showing app. twice the revs on the digidash with the converter,
then after tapping the down button a few times it was spot on !

    Exellent

Thanks for posting the video up I think this is the first time I've seen one working on an actual car rather than on my test bench

I think I might have a few of this batch left (but needing programming and testing).

My website is showing 4 in stock, I think there are 2 working ones and 2 without microprocessors (I ran out !!!).

Re: Last batch of pulse converters for this year.

    Hi Dom,

Just wondering what the difference between the old style converters and the new style ones is? I currently have one of your old style ones working perfectly in my astra v6, i'm gonna be needing another one in the near future for my current project...but was just curiouis as to what the difference in the two was....

    Cheers,
    Sean.

Re: Last batch of pulse converters for this year.

Well the current difference is that V1 is available to purchase and V2 is not lmao.

On a more serious note though, V1 was never really intended to be sold in the quantities I have sold them in. V1 came about after someone sent me a PM on here trying to get something built to get his 4 cylinder rev counter working on his new V6 transplant. What seemed like an easy project initially ended up costing me nearly £1000 in time/development and making me £30 back. After selling the first unit, a few other people wanted them and on it went. To date I've just about broken even on selling these.

V2 has come about because I've started to move a lot towards surface mount components and I have nearly 500 microcontrollers in surface mount rather than the DIP package. On the redesign I've made the following enhancements .....

Board is the same size but has more features
More surface mount making it less prone to vibration stress on the components
7 outputs rather than 1 for future enhancements to the product
Pulse converter board and future Shift light board share 90% of the same design so the same board will be used for both
Basic shift light facility will be included on V2 pulse converter board
V2 board is based on a firmware updatable processor as its now soldered onto the board in surface mount.
On board ABS amplifier as an option on the V2 so you can use a bare ABS sensor as an input
On board resistors for input/output biasing so no external resistors needed
Redesigned power input stage using proper automotive grade regulator
LED indicator on the board to help with any diagnostic problems
Ratio, LED/output trip points can be set via a PC connection to the unit via an optional interface.
Probably some other bits I've forgotten about lmao

So basically a complete redesign. At the moment its on hold as I'm working on some industrial stuff for a local company to help finance this years "interesting stuff" development but as soon as funds and time allow, the V2 unit / Shift light will be back on the design bench.

Not as yet I'm afraid bud - I've got the rest of this week for parental duties (flaming school holidays) then a week or two sorting out this stuff for the other company who pay the bills then I can get back on with the pulse converter.

Thats assuming nothing else happens in the meantime to get in my way
