it fits inline with the existing wiring - behind the dash once programmed would be your best bet

Just trying to think how I can put it inline with the large long connector for the trip computer.
I suppose the only way would be to cut into the loom before the connector and stick it inline on the wire that sends the pulse signal?
*Goes off to investigate what colour wire does what on the trip computer loom*....

99% of the time its the blue wire with the red stripe for the speed signal.

Ok - todays progress update :
Printed, exposed, etched and drilled the two boards I'll be sending out.
Also etched and drilled a frequency generator board so I can test the above more thoroughly
Mondays work will be getting the parts ordered for the two prototypes and I'll also order some extra bits for the other people who were interested.

Hi
I am interested in fitting gte digi dash into mk3 cav and tried one a little while ago but it was not as quick reacting to speed changes as my old mk2 gte one was, is there a mod to change the response of the dash?? as this one only goes up in dribs drabs ie 2 -4 mph at a time but my old one used to shoot up in 1-2 mph at a time, do i presume there is a mod to increase the response or do i just have a duff digi dash??.
thanks
mike
Nope - you cant make your dash read any faster I'm afraid.
I have noticed some dashes do seem to be faster in their reactions - the one I'm testing in my cav has around 3 updates per second.

Ok - this weeks update.
Its been a slow week - lots of family problems and distractions and had a few problems with the code for storing the preset values but finally sorted that today. I now had one fully working (hopefully) unit for Johnny A to test out next week.
Not 100% certain on accuracy of the units as I dont have a signal generator (being built next week) to properly test them. Up to multiplying the frequency by 4 they seem pretty stable though.
I hooked the unit up with a 50hz sine wave and the system can be programmed from 0.17x to 4x (5,6,7,8,10 are available but not that accurate). This should be sufficient for most applications although if something outside these specs is needed it could possibly be programmed as a special unit.
I'll get the first unit sent out to Johhny A at the start of next week and depending on how he gets on will get some other units to the people I've promised them to.
Fingers crossed it will work on everyone elses cars as well as it works on my old Cav![]()

awesome getting a little getting closer now!
wish i had mine up and running dom, would ahve been a good test platform
I'm an idiot when it comes to electronics and the last 3 pages have mostly gone over my head! lol but.....
...when I put my f28 into my nova which has an electeronically driven speedo can I fit one of these devices so I don't have to have the box drilled to take the mechanical digidash sender?
Simps.
If its got a signal that swings between 0 and 12 volts and the dash takes a signal that swings between 0 and 12 volts then yes - it should work fine.Originally Posted by The Simps

Right - done the final bit of testing for the prototype that is going out tomorrow.
Hooked up a rev counter I had lying around (out of a MK3 astra dash) and connected it to the prototype pulse converter. Then I hooked the input of the pulse converter up to the cable driven analogue clocks on my Cavalier and went for a drive.
Initially at about 10mph the rev counter was reading about 5,000 RPM so I got to a steady 30mph and pressed the down calibrate button until the rev counter read 3 (3,000 rpm). I then pressed the set button on the unit to store it and went for a drive.
Disaster - the rev counter fell off the dashboard into my lap and scared the crap out of me lmao. Having pulled over and wedged it in a bit better I did around 30 miles of mixed driving.
Considering how inaccurate rev counters actually are it was within 2mph of my Cavaliers Speedo at any time - bit weird watching your speed on a rev counter though lmao.
Also worked well at lower speeds - at a snails pace the unit was registering as low as a couple of miles an hour and also worked in reverse
Sending first unit out tomorrow and I'll be buying enough bits to fufill the other units promised to some of the other people who have been interested that I have contacted privately.
Final units hopefully will be a bit smaller and I'll port some of the stuff over to surface mount for the final batch of boards.
Oh - and it also worked to convert a V6 pulse train for the coil to a 4 cylinder rev counter (which was the original thing I was trying to build before deciding on going for a more universal unit).

cool dude, sounds very promising
First unit sent out to Johnny A - he should have it by tomorrow.
If all goes well with him I'll make up a few more prototypes - I've got enough parts coming for another 6 of them.

awseome, nice one Dom, so what sort of date then for production?
Got to get a few more of these out and tested on various cars and for various applications but all looking promising so far
I've got the parts for a few more units so will be assembling a couple more next week to send out for some more testing.

Hi,
I have one of these devices that i have fitted to my mk2 astra gte with a V6 in. I wanted to use the digi dash still so a converter was required.
Rev counter reading before
Fitting the PCB in to a box
Rev counter after device fitted and setup
Thanks DOM !!
V6 up and running 194 BHP! Details on my site www.gte8v.co.uk
dom when do you think youll have these ready to sell
Tricky one at the moment - just as I was ready to get going on my new business and start selling kit, the ex-wife decided that she wanted to sell up which means we have to move as well. Just sold our house in Northampton (completing tomorrow) and we've put the one we're in here on the market and it should sell pretty quickly.Originally Posted by mirpur
Until we've moved I'm not going to be able to do much more although if viewings are quiet and I can get the work done on this place to make it look nice quickly then I should get a few more units out but I cant promise anything at the moment
Ive got the parts for another 5 units - could really do with the money but the house sale/move has to come first.
There appears to be a small glitch which Johnny A has pointed out where at random intervals (around 20-30 miles or so) the speedo drops for a fraction of a second so I need to check over the code and see if I can work out where the gremlin has got in but the units seem to be 99.9% sorted![]()
