    Unhappy What system?

ok I have a top of the range Clarion head Unit and a 12" sub and JBL speakers under my rear shelf with standard door speakers and tweets. Question is what amp do I buy with how many channels and crossovers?

Also whats the best way to run this little lot?

Im not after excessive Booming but a quality sound is a must.

In an ideal world........ based on a 4ch amp

You will probably find you will need to upgrade the fronts, as they wont be able to compete with the 6x9's/subs.

front components ( preferably new, with their own crossovers) on amp, if standard, still on amp, But start with the absolute minimum setting.

    6x9's fed from headunit

sub bridged across the remainding 2 channels of the amp

This is known as running the amp in Tri-mode

    4 channel mate.

    ie

    Front L
    Front R

    Rear L + R channels bridged.

"bridged" basically is joining too lower powered channels together, to make ONE more powerful one.

If you run it this way, you will need to buy a BRIDGEABLE amp. Most amps are. But check.

That is pretty much the best way to connect it. You wont need the 6x9s on an amp or it will be too biased to the back.

OR, you could run it all off a 5-channel amp. There are several about to choose from. 2 front, 2 for the 6X9's and a separate sub channel.

I would agree that you really should change your fronts as they would have a hard time keeping up with the rest of the system.

Point of order, Tri-mode is when you run three channels from a two channel amp (left + right + sub bridged between the two.)

    Try before you buy.

U can get a good idea of some of the best audio componants in action at your local Halfords, aslong as it has a Ripspeed section.

I work for Halfords and there always helpful 2 a customer that they believe to be genuinly intrested in items, so aslong as ur not a button pusher (which ur not ) they'll be more than happy 2 help ya!

Try any local car Hi-fi store. There should be one near just about everybody try to listen to some demo or customers cars. Failing that get yer ass along to yer local cruise, talk to people, talk to yer mates, listen to their systems. Most of all, use yer ears, it's what you think sounds the best that matters. Whereabouts are you?
