    Astra mk3 radio memory

Just installed a new aftermarket radio and everything is working fine bar the preset memory, its like the unit resets everytime the ignition is turned off (back to start of cds, no radio presets). I have read a little and people are saying swap the red and yellow over, what exactly does that mean? ..EXACTLY?

    BE WARNED:

I'm really slow with electrics so be very basic or it will be like me trying to read french

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

A good place to start would probably be:

The purpose of the red wire - ?
The purpose of the yellow wire - ?

I know one of them is currently not connect to permanent 12v (whatever that means) but needs to be

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

    on the radio...
    red= permanent 12v+ (saves stations)
yellow=switched live ( turns radio off with ignition)

on the car.... obv do the same, but you'l notice where the iso plug joins the car plug, the red and yellow may be mixed up, so will need swopping round and will fix your problem

So its just as simple as taking the red out and putting it where the yellow currently is and putting the yellow where the red currently is?

Yup, they're usually on bullet connectors so you can pull them apart and swap them over easily

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Cheers for all the advice lads. I pulled the radio out looked at the red and yellow wires going into one of the black block connections and got scared

Do they just pull out with a little force? Don't want to go at them and f**k everything up..

Non of them cables on the radio its self, its wires on the block. Where u join the wires from the car its self, to the radios cable, its the red and yellow.... other section of the block to the 8 plain/stripey coloured wires (speakers).

    This is getting confusing

So what your saying is the red and yellow need to be removed from the block and connected into the bullet type connections (red and yellow) on the back of the head unit?

    And

If that's the case, Do i not need some type of male audio jack connection to add onto the red an yellow wires to plug them into the bullet connections on the head unit?

No No No No No No No No No

    Read what he's put.

The wiring block in your last photo. Swap the position of the yellow and red wires as detailed in this thread.

I strongly advice you to get someone to do this for you.

If you look closely, you see the pins may be slightly Y shaped, so a little bit of metal spings out to hold them in place. Poking a micro screw driver down the side will 'unclip' the pin, though a quick tug usualy pops them out okay.

Figured it out, two clips on either side hold them in, a hair clip bent like a slash hook done the job. Sorted

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Hmm OK. That didn't go according to plan the pins wouldn't come out as easy on the old opel iso as they did on the 'tester' iso block i was using. So i cut the wires and joined them with connector blocks taped them up, started the car and the the f**king car wouldn't turn off on the key

Just swap the red and yellow yous lot said

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Just thinking could it be something simple like a fuse? Power to the head unit is knocking off with the ignition.. it's just resetting and not saving stations

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Youve somehow linked a +12 to the dash loom if the car wouldnt switch off......(same thing happens using a battery booster in the cigratte lighter socket)

Like explained, the reason its losing stations is because of power lose, the head unit has 2 inputs.... a switched input, and a constant for the memory. Wire both red and yellow from the radio to the red of the car block... this will make the radio work without the keys (has to be switched on and off manually)

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Yep think that's what i done. Heres a picture of my test run

I cut the red and yellow on the car loom behind the radio (going into the iso) and swapped them over, that's what i taught yous meant.. should have taken the advice of getting someone to do it (even if it means waiting forever!) ah well, i learnt something i suppose

Still haven't a clue what yous mean by swapping the red and yellow!!?

    Re: Astra mk3 radio memory

Got someone to do it for us, was the red and two (i think) black wires that needed swapping, the wiring might be slightly diff between opel/vaux? :/

Anywho all working fine now, knocking off on ignition and saving stations
