It can be. Lots of the DIY fit cheapo ones used to be a power sounder with all the electronics integrated into it.

Time to start tracing wires then!

Beware though, just because you can't find the control box doesn't necessarily mean it's all in the sounder. My brother, being the ham fisted git that he is, tried to remove a power sounder from a vehicle with a professionally installed and expensive alarm (it was going off in the showroom and annoying him). Doing so put it into an anti-tamper mode completely immobilising it. It took me a good 6 hours to trace and strip the damn thing out.

    Re: aftermarket alarm

6 hours would have been awsome but i have been at it for days mate, i am not great with wires obviously, but what i know is, there are 2 box's behind glovebox area then a box with 2 (ecu STYLE) clips as in the main 1 that plugs into it in the passanger foot well kick panel bit

to me the wires are as should be but it wont respond

having said that the car has keyless doors and they were wired into the box/clip bit in pas foot well, as once i removed wireing it left 2 wires exposed when i join them the doors lock so thats why i am still sure i am missing something

at my whits end mate, i am actualy trying to orgonise for getting the car home at the min, but want to sort it before that as if i get it home non-runing it will be getting stripped for main bits then turned into bean cans

    thanks for your replys

    Re: aftermarket alarm

The wires you have left, at a guess, are part of the remote central locking wiring for the alarm - these are probably wired in to the central locking relay and is common to upgrade standard key centrol locking to remote on the alarm fobs. Best thing to do is trace the wires back from the sounder and see where they go, and if that's a control box, from there see where they go. If you're getting nothing on the key I'd guess the starter circuit is interrupted and re-routed via an immobiliser box.

Have a look and see if there's anything after the ignition switch that's been cut and joined. If it's a pro job they could easily have cut a few feet of standard wiring out to prevent a quick reconnection and bypass.
