Question Stereo stuck on and drained my battery. What's going on?

Astra G with the standard CDR500.

Came home on NYE and when I parked up and switched the engine off I noticed the stereo was still on.

When I say on it wasn't fully on (no sound) but the headunit was illuminated, the mfd was illuminated and so were the steering wheel controls. The stereo was stuck in this state - it wouldn't fully turn on or turn off.

Anyhoos, being NYE I just left it with the expected consequence that it would drain the battery. Which it did.

After getting the jump leads on it and the car started the stereo is now behaving as expected. Switching on and off as normal. So i've no idea what the root cause of the problem is and I'm concerned it will repeat itself leaving me with a flat battery again.

    Anybody seen this before?

whats your thinking on the ignition switch Paul?

If the car thought the key was still in the ignition - when it wasn't - then I would have expected to hear the warning buzzer when I opened the door.

Ive had that happen before except it still had sound. I pulled out the fuse for the radio and it seemed to sort it

i'll keep that in mind if it happens again - pulling the fuse should hopefully stop the battery getting drained

well (thankfully) it hasn't happened again. The problem has disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

The Astra sat unused from Friday to Monday, and on Monday easily started on the first turn of the key.

It doesn't really make sense about the ignition switch, as you say you'd think the stupid warning siren'd be going and I'd expect the stereo to still produce sound. I can only think it's the CDR500 itself that's gone nuts. You might be able to get round it by switching off the 'ignition logic' where the radio ignores the ignition switch position, but then you'd have to turn it on and off manually every time.

Goo excuse to bin it out and get an awesome Kenwood USB jobby with the pukka display and steering wheel control adaptors!
    They're there, in their room.

Nah, the Astra's getting as little as possible spent on it now. Will probably be changing car soon.
