no too keen on the sound of that haha, but im sure there will be decent stealth shelves out there. More interested in modifying one of my own though as i've got 3 to play with, just wanting to know any tips on how to go about doing this?

get some wood and make a frame to stiffen it up, and what i'd do if you have 3 to play with is screw your speaker under the shelf with a hole cut out smaller that the speaker, then with a different shelf cut a bigger hole the same shape say quarter of an inch all the way round, then mount these over where the speakers are, but space it up off the shelf so the sound can get threw in to the car. chances are it will look pretty cool too.

yeah sounds good, was thinking of doing something similar. using a frame to have a solid shelf, fit the speakers to this then put the parcel shelf with cut out 6x9s on top then wrap the shelf in felt, carpet or something...hide the speakers but still let out sound as im not really wanting the speakers on show!

have a bit of a play buddy, dont mean to sound big headed, but i think my way will look better, cos if you carpet it, you'll have a baggy effect and it will look gash in my opinion lol, worth a go tho.

if you use the standard shelf, recover it with acoustic cloth, with some material over the holes you cut out before fitting the cloth, saves it sagging into the holes and will look stealthy.

    Re: uprated parcel shelves?

If modifying a stock shelf to take 6x9s your first job is to make sure its sturdy enough to support them... Your second job is to secure the shelf in place to avoid it flying round the cabin in the event of a crash, (a 6x9 hitting you on the head will hurt, maybe even kill).... As stated the 6x9 should be mounted underneath the actual shelf onto a speaker baffle, (12mm MDF is fine).... The speaker cutouts in the parcel shelf should be bridged to prevent new shelf covering from sagging using suitable wire mesh, (mesh sold for bodywork repairs or throw away barbie grills), fixed in place using a hot glue gun or other suitable adhesive... The shelf should then be recovered using acoustic cloth...
if it sounds right to you, then its right.
