    Astra MK5 stereo replacement

    Morning all

Iv'e asked this question in Halfords and was met by blank faces:

If I replace my stereo in my Astra MK5, how much of the dash display usage will I lose? (time, temp, etc) Or will it still function as normal?.....with the exception of the station display.

Also, to anyone who has already done this, how much extra wiring is needed?

The reason for all this.....I want an iPod socket or AUX in as the FM broadcaster is a pain in the @rse!

You will still have the time temp functions etc, just the radio display is lost (if you have the on board trip computer this will also still function, only downside with the trip computer display is that with an after market stereo you cant change the time for when the clocks change). You can also buy an Autoleads adaptor for most aftermarket headunits that allow you to retain the use of your steering wheel controls.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.

The Connects2 wiring harness allows you to change time & date. You get instructions on how to do this with the lead. You will need an additional patch lead to keep the steering wheel controls.

So if I was going to replace my factory stereo, and I don't have steering wheel controls, how much of a deal is it to swap these days? I know I have to get a facia off ebay and I am guessing some sort of adaptor cable to go from the new stereo to the Astra....is there anything else that I need to take into account?

Yep it's the CD30 that's in there at the moment. I'm planning on replacing it with nothing too fancy, something under £100

You will also need an aerial adaptor, FAKRA to DIN (I think). This will need to be connected to an ignition live as it powers the aerial amplifier. There is a wire for this on most after market headunits.
