    Broken Frontera Immobiliser 'dongle'

Hi. My 96 Frontera A 2.2 Petrol has the seperate Tec-Tus key fob and a touch-plate on the steering column. After leaving my keys out in the sun, the fob has stopped working. The chip inside looks like it has shattered with the heat. I've spoken to my local Vauxhall garage but they didn't fill me with too much confidence and I can see a big bill coming my way once they've towed my Fronty into their workshop. What is my simplest/cheapest option? Can a new fob be programmed to my existing immobiliser control unit - or do I need to have my engine management ECU modified to remove the immobiliser? I've found somewhere that will do this but it works out at about £250. Seems a lot to fix a broken fob.

Tec tus? Never heard of it. Take its an aftermarket system not supplied from Vauxhall?

Hi Paul. It is the standard factory-fit immobiliser for the '96 Frontera and as far as I can tell it's brain is also tightly linked to the engine management ECU. So unless anyone else has comes up with something I think you are probably right - and I'm stuffed!

Who'd think that replacing a key fob would be such a pain.

Hi. Yes I checked that link thanks. They seemed to be where the owner had a key fob that the immobiliser wouldn't recognise. Whereas I no longer have a working key fob. I think my first step is going to have to be to go to a VX dealer for a new fob - and then start from there to try and get the immobiliser to recognise it.

The transponder part number is 91151838.
You will also need the vehicle security code to have it programed to the vehicle...
