replace tape deck with?

I am looking to replace the tape head unit in my 1.2 corsa premier, It doesn't sound to bad and has a full set of o.e. speakers inc door tweeters.

Would a o.e. cd head unit from another vauxhall be a straight swap? and will the dash display still function?

You can fit a CDR500 - straight swap retaining the existing cage. If the display doesn't work straight off there's a button combination to switch between 8 and 10 digit display types. Always plenty of them on ebay.

I did think the standard stereo was a bit lacking (distorted at high volume) but after taking my door cards off today to check on the passanger speaker that didn't work I noticed both the front speakers had rotted around the edges (the foam rubber part), I'm going to replace the speakers and see what it sounds like then.

I think leaky bottom window seals have let damp inside the door, the door itself isn't rusty but I have sprayed some grease in the cavity just to make sure,

I know the door speakers are a common shape/size on the astra, vectra, corsa and tigra. But which car has the best speakers standard, I get all my parts free from a family friends scrap yard thats why I'm looking for o.e. parts.
