astra G alarm going off. Powersounder?

Today whilst driving, my 51 plate astra coupe turbo started making a beeping alarm type sound from over near the glove box, not very loud, then it stopped after about 40 secs.

Got home went in for my tea, AND ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!! the horns going and a claxon with the sort of volume that HMS victory would be proud of is honking away. Loudest alarm I have ever heard.

Now I've read on line that the power sounder is the problem. I was in such a panic (it was 10.10pm and the neighours bedroom lights were coming on!) That I didn't notice if the hazards were going, or if it was just the siren.

My question is, if I remove the power sounder from the passanger arch, do I have to replace it for the alarm to work or can I leave it off.

The car is now parked at the top of my drive, unlocked, and with the fuse for the alarm pulled out.

Im keeping my fingers crossed that it doesnt go off in the night.

    Stupid f**king car.

I'm not familiar with Vauxhall power sounders but if it's just batteries you need for it, you can get most types from RS Components or similar places, provided you can remove and identify them that is.

It's a sealed unit, the car will be fine without it but it's not a cat 1 thatchum without it so if your not going to replace it you should tell your insurance provider.
    Jack said,

Surely you are only pulling it one way though? ie. you are pulling it along its length.

its a sealed unit correct, but you can carefully prise them apart and replace the batteries, I have only recently done this for my father....saves the £80!!

    Its a very common problem...

Oh yeah, you should for now, put fuse back in and remove the power sounder, your doors will then still lock and unlock correctly

If I remove it, and leave it a few days before getting batteries and then go to refit it, will it need coding on the tech2. I've read 'yes'. I hear you have to leave the key in the igniton whilst you swap the unit or the batteries.

Sean- please can you post up the part number for the batts you used, and tell me where I can get them!
