    sub box building?

    what cubic feet of a box do i need to put one 15" sub into a sealed box?

    the sub is a lightning audio 'BOLT' B2.15.4 and is rated at 750w power output and 4 ohms probably a lot less if its 'rms' but its not stated on the speaker and i can not find any info on the net,

    ive been looking at this site to calculate the box but i dont know how much cubic feet/volume i need for my sub

    any ideas as a rough guide?

    thanks,

    Dave.

    These subs prefer small sealed enclosures, I would opt for a custom enclosure of around 1 cubic foot... Or alternatively purchase a pre-fab 12" enclosure & open up the mounting hole to suit the 15" sub...

    Using the sealed enclosure calculator I linked to in PM opt for the wedge shape enclosure adjusting its depth to give you around the 1 cubic foot capacity.....
    if it sounds right to you, then its right.

    1 foot sounds about right,similar size my old kicker subs needed,but my vibe spaces needed 1.4 foot as the magnets were soo huge.

    Yes thanks wallopsri I did indeed take your advice but I couldn't find any specific information on my subs, I'll be going for the wedge and flush up against the back seats so I still have boot space. I just wasn't to sure on what width to make the box. I'll do it just over 1 cubic foot to allow for supports inside the box. Thanks.

    Re: sub box building?

    Right today I ripped apart my pre built sub box which carried two 15 inch subs and 3.09 cubic ft of space. I took the angle grinder to it and got the cubic ft down to 2.31, the box had a divider in the middle so I left that in place.

    The subs are back in the box and looking good but!

    What I had before in my calibra was two 15" subs at 750 each + two 600w tornado amps bridged and with the aid of a 1.2 farad cap.

    I've been Reading and found that the caps are useless so I'm going to leave it out of this build but what I want to know is will I be better off for easy of setting and ease of fitting should I just fit one amp and have the two 15" subs wired to one amp? and then maybe have a look on eBay and upgrade to a 1500watt amp ?? any ideas? Or shall I just fit the two tornado amps at 600w each and have the extra wiring and extra weight and more hassle with fine tuning?

    I have two 15" subs and two 600w amps with no power cap with a box of 2.31 cubic ft, it sounds ok, but I just need to tune it, which isn't my speciality! Where do I start?

    What is 'it' ????

    If 'it' is;

    1, Sealed Enclosure;
    You can tune these by altering their perceived internal volume, in general 'smaller = tighter & harder whilst larger = warmer & softer....

    To lose internal volume use wooden blocks placed in the corners, (glue in place once happy)....

    To gain internal volume use fluffed up fibreglass loft insulation, (done correctly the sub will react or behave as if its in an enclosure thats approx 10% larger)....

    2, Tonal Accuracy;
    In general terms the main points which will affect this are, Enclosure Type, Enclosure Size, System Settings....

    System setup is covered in general in the 'stickied' thread....

    Without a more detailed description of what it actually sounds like I can't offer a definite diagnosis.... I would recommend a little trial & error only adjusting one item at a time....
    if it sounds right to you, then its right.

    Re: sub box building?

    I've been adjusting over the last week or so and have not been able to turn the volume up to much because of my boy in the back, last night I went out in the car on my own for the first time in ages and I turned the volume up! It was rather loud! I now have a completely numb right ear and my left ear is ringing! oops lol

    this is all good for a small a small amount of listening, to much exposure to this sort of loudness can damage your hearing, i study sound engineering and know the ins and outs, any more info then pleas p/m me, not on this thread allot!!
